2008 Rabies Clinics
Rabies clinics will be held
Saturday, Sept. 13 from 9
a.m.-2 p.m. throughout the
county in cooperation with
Caldwell Veterinary Hospi
tal, LLC in Forsyth and
Monroe County Extension
Service. 4-H members will
assist Dr. Butler Caldwell
with the clinics. The fee is $8
per animal for a one-year
vaccination and $14 for a
three-year vaccination. For

birthday party
The family of the late
Rubye J. Watts will be host
ing the 18th annual 90-100
year old birthday party
Wednesday, Sept. 24 from
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the
Monroe County Senior
Center. Each year the pro
gram celebrates Monroe
County’s seasoned citizens
and includes words of wis
dom from several local citi
zens who have been blessed
to live into their 90s.
Refreshments will be
served. It will be a lot of
fun, no matter how young

Dauset Trails Nature
Center is hosting its fourth
annual Praise in the Pines
Gospel Festival Friday and
Saturday, Sept. 26 and 27.
The BBQ cook-off will be
on Friday. Your church
can participate in three
paid trit to the UN in NY
City. At the top lever there
will also be 23 others in
second or Merit level, each
willing $500 cash award.
In the past 2 local youth
have won in the Merit
level: Billy Myers in 2002,
and Jordan Harris in 2004.
The Forsyth Lions have
sponsored the
International Peace Poster
contest since 1991.
This is a wonderful
opportunity for Monroe
County youth to compete
with the best in the world.

Lions Club’s annual
International Peace Poster
contest. It is open to youth
ages 11, 12 & 13 and not
yet 14 on Nov. 15, 2008.
This year there will be four
contests. One in each of the
Monroe County Middle
Schools, Hubbard, and
Bank Stephens, with art
teacher Johnnie Skelton as
the contact; one at Monroe
Academy, with art teacher,
Monte Rae Purser as the
contact. Then there will be
a fourth Open Contest for
Home Schooled students
and other Monroe County
residents who are not in
the sahools listed above.
The contact for the
Open/Home school contest
is Mary Ellen Strickland,

Youth art work entered
in one of the above con
tests will be judged on 3
areas 1. Appropriateness

district level for further
judging. The top winner (1)
from that contest goes to
the State Level and com
petes with 5 other top
posters. The winner of
State level judging goes on
to International level

upwards to 1000 posters

of $2500 and an expense
