Monroe County Retired Educators
Association will hold the first fall meeting at
1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17 in the Monroe
County Library’s conference room. The pro
gram will be presented by Bobbie Evans on
Joyful Laughter, followed by a business
meeting and refreshments. All retired educa
tors are invited to attend.

The Forsyth-Monroe County Chamber of
Commerce’s monthly Business After Hours
will be hosted by Gresco and Capstone
Utility Supply Thursday from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

MP class of1979 to meet
The Mary Person class of 1979 will meet
at 5:30 p.m. Saturday Sept. 20 at Ebbyz Bar
and Grill to discuss the upcomgin 30th class
reunion trip to Jacksonville, Fla. For more

Merchants Mall clearance sale
The former Merchants Mall is liquidating all
its merchandise at deep discount prices. Satur
day, Sept. 20 everything will be on sale from 9
a.m. to 3 p.m., including books, pictures, col
lectibles, rugs, China, furniture, lamps and more.
Merchants Mall is located at 14 West Main St.,
next to the Royal Palm restaurant.

Roquemore family reunion
The annual Roquemore family reunion will be
held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21 at Mt. Zion
United Methodist Church. Paper goods will be
furnished. Bring your family and your favorite

Griffin family reunion
The annual Griffin family reunion will be
held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at High Falls State
Park on Sunday, Sept. 21.
Sept. 24
90-100 year old birthday party
The family of the late Rubye J. Watts will be
hosting the 18th annual 90-100 year old birth
day party Wednesday, Sept. 24 from 11 a.m. to 1
p.m. at the Monroe County Senior Center. Each
year the program celebrates Monroe County’s
seasoned citizens and includes words of wisdom
from several local citizens who have been
blessed to live into their 90s. Refreshments will
be served. It will be a lot of fun, no matter how
young you are! For more information call 994-
1701. The Monroe County Senior Center is
located at 515 Hwy. 83 South, across from
Hubbard Elementary School.

Program on preserving family and
community memories at the
High Falls Civic Club
The High Falls Civic Club will present
“Preserving Family and Community Memories”,
at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25. The highlighted
speakers will be representatives from Indigo
Publishing, which has recently expanded its
Macon operations to include Blue Marble
Books, a self-publishing branch. The purpose of
the presentation is to show how changes in the
publishing industry are making self-published
books affordable and how this aids in preserv
ing genealogical and historical information.
Among the subjects will be how to research and
gather oral and written histories for schools,
churches, sports teams, communities, families
and individuals. The meeting will be held at the
High Falls Fire Department at 3901 High Falls
Rd. The public is invited and refreshments will
be served.

Dauset Trails Gospel Fest & BBQ
Dauset Trails Nature Center is hosting its
fourth annual Praise in the Pines Gospel
Festival Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26 and 27.
The BBQ cook-off will be on Friday. Your
church can participate in three categories:
hams, ribs and stew. Friday evening will be
the square dance from 7- 9 p.m. Saturday
will feature live gospel groups starting at 11
a.m. and performing throughout the day. The
festival is free. Food and drinks will be sold. If
your church would like to participate in the
BBQ cook-off call Dauset Trails at 770-775-6798
to enter. There is a $25 entry donation for the
BBQ cook-off. Dauset Trails is located at 360
Mt. Vernon Church Road, Jackson. Go to

Oct. 3-4
Dauset Trails movies under stars
Dauset Trails is hosting two movies on a
giant, 30-foot outdoor screen Oct. 3-4. Presented
by Southern Outdoor Cinema, the movies will
be shown on the front field near the Lotus
Pond. On Friday, Oct. 3, see "Hoot." Gates will
open at 6:30 p.m. Showtime is at 7:30 p.m. On
Saturday, Oct. 4, see "Horton Hears a Who!"
Showtime is at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $5 per vehicle. Concessions will be
sold. Please, no pets or alcohol.
Bring blankets and chairs and enjoy a new
nocturnal experience at Dauset Trails.

Monroe County’s annual lifechain
Monroe County’s annual LifeChain demon
stration, designed to encourage expecting moth
ers not to abort their babies, is set for Sunday,
Oct. 5 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Several Monroe
County churches are participating. Participants
may park behind in the BB&T or Farmers Bank
lots and will form a lifechain on Lee St.

Book club meeting rescheduled
Monroe County Library’s September book club
meeting has been rescheduled to Oct. 7 at 6
p.m. This month’s selection is “Water for
Elephants” by Sara Gruen.

Register for citizens police

Monroe County residents
who are interested in
learning about the inner
workings of the Forsyth
Police Department will be
able to do so during an
eleven week course that
begins Sept. 25. The class
will meet each Thursday
evening from 6:30-8:30
p.m. and will be taught by
certified instructors. Some
of the topics that will be
covered include traffic
stops, defensive tactics,
drugs/investigations and
more. Participants will also
get a chance to clear up
any preconceived notions
they may have and learn
about the types of things
officers are exposed to on a
regular basis. Those inter
ested in applying for the
course should live or own a
business in Forsyth, be at
least 21 years of age, be
able to pass a criminal
background and motor
vehicle records check,

Kristy Herring and Chad
Middleton announce the
birth of their son,
Cameron Chad Middleton,
at 5:53 p.m. on Friday,
Aug. 22, 2008 at the
Coliseum Hospital in
Macon. He weighed 6
pounds, 5 ounces and was
19 inches long.
His grandparents are

and Mary Middleton of High Falls, Trey and Debbie
Herring of Forsyth and Jackson and Page Floyd.
He was welcomed home by his big brothers Alex and

35th Annual Buggy Days Parade
Parade begins Saturday at 2 p.m. from Summers Field on
College Drive, onto Main Street. The 2008 Buggy Days
Parade Grand Marshalls are Lamar County’s “Outstanding
Citizens of the Year”, Charles & Jean Dukes.
Old Fashioned Games
Saturday evening gates open at 6 p.m. Games start at 7:30
p.m. Summers Field. Admission $2 per person, children four
and under free. Sponsored by: Lamar County Farm Bureau.
Fireworks Display
The display will begin at 9:45 p.m. at Summer’s Field.
Sponsored by: City of Barnesville, Gordon College, Lamar
County, Barnesville-Lamar County Chamber of Commerce,
and the Industrial Development Authority.
Antique Car Display
See vintage automobiles and meet their owners. Staging
begins at 9 a.m., Saturday. Sponsored by: Barnesville-Lamar

Arts & Crafts Festival
Saturday 9 a.m.- 6 p.m. Sunday 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Artists and

the streets of downtown Barnesville.

Buggy Blast Fun Park. Located in the United Bank parking lot. Come join us in an outrageous
adventure with a Rock Climbing Wall, and a Spider Jump just to name a few.
The Bill Gill Express. Ride a train for the young and the young at heart. Tickets, $1. The Barnesville
Police Department operates the Bill Gill Express to raise money for the Barnesville Youth Council.
First Aid Station & Cooling Booth: The Lamar County Fire & Rescue will demonstrate and offer
safety training for the entire family. Located in the United Bank Parking lot.
Old Jail Museum <& Archives: Tour the Old Jail Museum and see exhibits in honor of Buggy Days.
The museum is located behind the Lamar County Courthouse. Loaded with memorabilia, the museum
covers Barnesville’s rich history as the Buggy Capital of the South, including several Barnesville
Buggies made in local factories.
Admission $1.
Park & Ride: Can’t find a place to park? Park at the Lamar County High School and ride the Buggy
Days van over to the festival. The van will drop you off downtown at the Library. The van will pick up
& drop off continuously: Sat., 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Sunday, 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Follow the parking signs to
the high school, or on Saturday, you may also park & ride at the Church of the Nazarene on Hwy. 341
to Hwy. 36. There is no charge for these services.
Food Court The food vendors’ booths are located in the Stafford Parking area. A covered area is
provided with tables and chairs for your enjoyment. Local civic and church groups provide a variety of
traditional and unique food menus to satisfy any appetite. Look for complete list of vendors in the
brochure under Food Court directory.
