90-100 year old birthday party
The family of the late Rubye J. Watts will be
hosting the 18th annual 90-100 year old birth
day party Wednesday, Sept. 24 from 11 a.m. to 1
p.m. at the Monroe County Senior Center. Each
year the program celebrates Monroe County’s
seasoned citizens and includes words of wisdom
from several local citizens who have been
blessed to live into their 90s. Refreshments will
be served. It will be a lot of fun, no matter how
young you are! For more information call 994-
1701. The Monroe County Senior Center is
located at 515 Hwy. 83 South, across from
Hubbard Elementary School.
Sept. 25
Program on preserving family
and community memories
at the High Falls Civic Club
The High Falls Civic Club will present
“Preserving Family and Community Memories”,
at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25. The highlighted
speakers will be representatives from Indigo
Publishing, which has recently expanded its
Macon operations to include Blue Marble
Books, a self-publishing branch. The purpose of
the presentation is to show how changes in the
publishing industry are making self-published
books affordable and how this aids in preserv
ing genealogical and historical information.
Among the subjects will be how to research and
gather oral and written histories for schools,
churches, sports teams, communities, families
and individuals. The meeting will be held at the
High Falls Fire Department at 3901 High Falls
Rd. The public is invited and refreshments will
be served.

Berean Christian Bookstore
to hold book signing
Berean Christian Bookstore will hold a book
signing for Kim Wilson, author of “The Church
Marketing Recipe Book for New and Small
Churches with a Limited Budget”, on Saturday,
Sept. 27 from 12-3 p.m.
Wilson is an author, church marketing consult
ant, professor, speaker and founder of God’s Ac
tive People/G.A.P. Ministry Marketing Services.
She has also successfully headed marketing
projects for Christian organizations such as the
Barna Research Group and Campus
Crusade/promotion of Mel Gibson’s major movie,
“The Passion of the Christ.” She has been an Ad
junct Professor for Regent University and Liber
ty University and had a weekly radio show, “In
crease Your Outreach” that aired on LeSEA
Broadcasting Company throughout the U.S. and
globally on the Internet.
This book and meet and greet is designed to help
those who have a small church or want to start a
new church or ministry. For more information

Dauset Trails Gospel Fest & BBQ
Dauset Trails Nature Center is hosting its
fourth annual Praise in the Pines Gospel
Festival Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26 and 27.
The BBQ cook-off will be on Friday. Your
church can participate in three categories:
hams, ribs and stew. Friday evening will be
the square dance from 7-9 p.m. Saturday
will feature live gospel groups starting at 11
a.m. and performing throughout the day. The
festival is free. Food and drinks will be sold. If
your church would like to participate in the
BBQ cook-off call Dauset Trails at 770-775-6798
to enter. There is a $25 entry donation for the
BBQ cook-off. Dauset Trails is located at 360
Mt. Vernon Church Road, Jackson. Go to

Charity run for Diane Gray’s
kidney transplant
A charity run will be held Saturday, Sept. 27
at High Falls BBQ to benefit Diane Gray, who
needs a kidney transplant. Registration begins
at 8 a.m. The ride starts at 10:30 a.m. The reg
istration fee is $20 a rider and $10 per passen
ger or $25 for 3 hands for poker run. There will
be a 50/50 drawing for $1 a ticket or 6 for $5.
There will be an auction, live band and food and
beverages will be available. For more informa

Johnson Kidney Fund
Everyone involved in helping raise money
for the Kanodra Johnson Kidney Fund need

Oct. 3-4
Dauset Trails movies under stars
Dauset Trails is hosting two movies on a
giant, 30-foot outdoor screen Oct. 3-4. Presented
by Southern Outdoor Cinema, the movies will
be shown on the front field near the Lotus
Pond. On Friday, Oct. 3, see "Hoot." Gates will
open at 6:30 p.m. Showtime is at 7:30 p.m. On
Saturday, Oct. 4, see "Horton Hears a Who!"
Showtime is at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $5 per vehicle. Concessions will be
sold. Please, no pets or alcohol.
Bring blankets and chairs and enjoy a new
nocturnal experience at Dauset Trails.

Corley family reunion
The Corley family reunion will be held on
Sat., Oct. 4 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. The event will
be held at the American Legion Hall, Hwy 41,
Forsyth. All family members are encouraged to
come and bring a covered dish.

Monroe County’s annual lifechain
Monroe County’s annual Life Chain demon
stration, a silent, prayerful expression of sup
port for the sanctity of life, is set for Sunday,
Oct. 5 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Over 800 cities across
the U.S. will join in an hour of prayer to end
abortion and for healing of those hurt by abor
tion. Several Monroe County churches are par
ticipating. Participants may park behind in the
BB&T or Farmers Bank lots and will form a
lifechain on Lee St.

Book club meeting rescheduled
Monroe County Library’s September book club
meeting has been rescheduled to Oct. 7 at 6
p.m. This month’s selection is “Water for
Elephants” by Sara Gruen.

Adult Literacy, Family Connection
and Christ UMC to participate
in Charity Day Sale
Monroe County Adult Literacy, Family
Connection and Christ United Methodist
Church are selling tickets to Belk's Charity Day
Sale to be held on Saturday, Oct. 11 from noon
to 8 p.m, a few days before the store grand
opening. Tickets are $5 and allow the purchaser
to enter the store during that time period and
receive 20% off most items, 15% off others, and
25 % off fine jewelry. Tickets are available at
Monroe County Bank, The Farmers Bank and
Piedmont Bank. The charities get to keep the
$5 from each ticket sold and the funds will be
used for their various needs. Adult Literacy will
use the funds raised to buy dictionaries pre
sented annually to every third grader in
Monroe County.

Commerce paying a sur
prise visit to two of its
members, Farmers
Furniture and Atkinson’s
Mid-GA Auto Center.
“The purpose of the
Membership Matters
Surprise Patrol is to show
our members how much we
appreciate their member
ship and continued support
of the Chamber. It is also
an opportunity for our
board members, ambassa
dors, and staff to visit the
member in his or her busi
ness and to learn what
they do,” said Laurie Lee,
Membership Services
Coordinator for the
Chamber.
During the surprise vis
its, the chamber presented
each member with two
dozen fresh homemade
cookies and a bouquet of
balloons.
