board
Virginia Remick will
replace local newspaper
columnist Don Daniel on
the board that hears prop
erty tax appeals in the
county.
The Monroe County
grand jury met on Sept. 15
and appointed Remick to
join the board of equaliza
tion when Daniel’s term
expires at the end of the
year. Remick, who was
appointed to a three-year
term, had been an alter
nate on the board. The
board hears appeals of
property tax assessments,
and has heard hundreds of
appeals this year after a
county-wide revaluation of
properties led to steep
increases in values.
Daniel had said he was
willing to serve another
term..
The grand jury also
appointed Bennie Andrews
as an alternate on the
board of equalization.
Andrews was also appoint
ed for three years.
Jury foreman John Baker
said he couldn’t comment
on the reasons for the
change.
Both Andrews and
Remick will take their new
positions in January.
