DUI for Thomaston woman
BY LAURA
THACKSTON
Forsyth police arrested
Thomaston resident Brandi
Wood, 22, on charges of DUI,
nearly hitting a parked car
and possession of marijuana
on Saturday, Sept. 27
Here's what happened,
according to the Forsyth
Police Department report:
Sgt. Darryl Bittick saw a
west-bound car run off the
right side of the road near
the NAPA store on Johnston
Street at around 9:37 p.m.
The driver, Brandi Wood,
over corrected and began
driving toward a truck
parked at the comer of
Johnston Street and Kimball
Street. At the last minute,
Wood corrected the car and
kept driving toward Lee
Street. When Sgt. Bittick
tried to stop the car, the
driver stopped in the middle
of the intersection and,
appeared confused. Bittick
finally had to get out of his
car and tell Wood to move
out of the intersection.
There was a faint odor of
alcoholic beverage coming
from inside of her car, and
she had a hard time answer
ing questions. Wood said she
was unable to maintain her
lane and almost had a wreck
because she spilled her
Coke. The points where
Wood ran outside the lane
and nearly hit the truck
were several hundred yards
apart.
Bittick noticed Wood’s
pupils were fixed and didn't
respond to passing car
lights. Bittick went to the
driver's side of the car and
turned around just in time
to catch Wood bent over.
When Wood was confronted
about this, her head shot up
and she said she had an
itch. Officer Kimberly
Barnett was called to the
scene to search Wood. A
marijuana joint was found in
the center console of the car.
Barnett arrested Wood and
took her to the Monroe
County Hospital for a blood
sample. She was cited for
DUI, possession of marijua
na, failure to maintain lane,
view obstructed due to a
large crack, operating a vehi
cle without valid tag/decal
and tag light required.

Correction
A story in the Oct. 1
Reporter, “Credit cards
show costs of mayor, coun
cil travel,” contained an
error. Commissioner Jim
Ham and his wife Lydia
Ham flew to Washington,
D.C., not Minnesota, for the
National Association of
County Officials (NACO)
convention earlier this year.
Also, Ham says he reim
bursed the county for his
wife’s ticket.
