County sets hearings on tax increase
The Monroe County Board of
Commissioners plans to increase the prop
erty taxes it will levy this year by .73 per
centage over the rollback millage rate.
The budget tentatively adopted by the
Monroe County Board of Commissioners
requires that a millage rate higher than
the rollback millage rate, therefore, before
the Monroe County Board of
Commissioners may finalize the tentative
budget and set a final millage rate,
Georgia law requires three
public hearings to be held to
allow the public an opportu
nity to express their opinions
on the increase.
Hearings on this tax
increase at the County Administration
Building are set for Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. and
Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. At the close
of the Oct. 16 6 p.m. hearing the final
millage will be adopted. Two advertise
ments related to the tax change are being
re-run in this week’s Reporter. One is
being re-run due to a mistake in the
Reporter’s production department that
left out the 2008 column in the tax histo
ry, and one due to an error by the county.
