Ruth Hamby Hampton
March 18,1921 - October 15,2008
Ruth Hamby Hampton of Culloden went to her eternal
reward on Oct. 15, 2008 after an extended illness. She
was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, William H.
Hampton, and by her daughter, Brenda E. Campbell.
Funeral services were held at the Monroe County
Memorial Chapel Oct. 18. Family friend, Thomas Benson,
gave the eulogy. Burial was private.
Mrs. Hampton was born March 18, 1921 in Cumming,
the youngest child of John Henry Thompson Hamby and
Augusta Belle Smith Hamby. She lived and died a
Christian and a member of the Methodist faith. She lived
in Macon most of her life and had lived in Culloden for
the past 20 years. She was a member of the Cabaniss
Chapter UDC for 14 years.
She is survived by her son, Charles Hampton (Jane);
three grandchildren, Lee Ann Scott (Doug), Glen
Hampton and Leslie Musser (Scott); four great grandchil
dren: Ben Scott (Emily), Dusty Scott, Brittney Boswell
(Michael) and Michael Bond; one great-grandson, Drake
Boswell.

Bessie Mae Thomas
July 17,1922 - October 10,2008
Bessie Mae Thomas, 86, of Forsyth, died Friday, Oct. 10,
2008. Mrs. Thomas was the daughter of Bessie and Elias
Owens of Forsyth. She was preceded in death by her
mother and father and four sisters and six brothers.
Affectionately known to many as “Mama T,” she was a
member of New Springfield Baptist Church where she
served as assistant superintendent of Sunday school, on
the trustee board, former member and president of the
choir and chairperson of the annual Thanksgiving break
fast.
Mrs. Thomas worked for the Atlanta Police Dept, as a
school crossing officer. She also worked for the Atlanta
Housing Authority, Georgia State University with Sands
Vending Co. and Senior Connections Center in Decatur.
She is survived by her children, Harold (Brenda)
Thomas, Jr. , James (Teresa) Thomas, Barry (Tracey)
Thomas and Beverly Thomas Jackson; sisters, Rubye
Scandrett and Kizzie Thrash; 12 grandchildren, nine
great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins
and friends.

Lenora Boyt Shannon Morgan of Cabaniss died
Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008. Funeral services were held Oct.
16 at Monroe County Memorial Chapel in Forsyth with a
private burial in Westview Cemetery in Atlanta. The
Rev. Robin McLeroy and the Rev. Mark Grinstead offici
ated.
Mrs. Morgan, the daughter of the late Joseph H. and
Blanche Gibson Shannon was born April 25, 1906, in
Monroe County. Her husband, William Howard Morgan
preceded her in death.
Mrs. Morgan was retired from Retail Credit in Atlanta.
She was a member of Cabaniss Baptist Church in
Cabaniss and was previously a member of Haygood
United Methodist Church in Decatur, where she was
involved in various charities. She was very instrumental
in helping many high school students attain their college
education.
Survivors include her sister, Evie Shannon Gregory of
Morrow; six nieces and nephews and 15 great nieces and
nephews.

Earl Stephens
Earl Stephens, 61, of Forsyth, died Thursday, Oct. 9,
2008. Funeral services were held Oct. 16 at St. Luke
AME Church, with burial in Forsyth City Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Louise Stephens;
two daughters, Jacqueline (Carnell) Smith and D'tra
(Reginald) Parsons; son, Gerome (Starlin) Stephens all of
Forsyth; sister, Carol (Charlie Frank) Phillips of
Barnesville; brothers, Samuel (Exter) Stephens of
Forsyth, Ralph (Nora) Stephens of Columbus, and
Emmett (Beatrice) Stephens of Lizella; father-in-law,
Thomas Grier of Forsyth; five grandchildren; brother-in-
law, Thomas W. Grier; sister-in-law, Camilla Phinazee
both of Forsyth.
Freeman Funeral Home of Forsyth had charge of the
arangements.
Annie Pearl Champion Watson of Forsyth died
Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008. A graveside service was held
Tuesday at Evergreen City Cemetery in Macon. The Rev.
Franklin Etheridge officiated.
Mrs. Watson, the daughter of the late AJ and Ella Pearl
Lowery Champion was born Sept. 26, 1937, in Bibb
County. Her sister, Aretta Shirley Bagley, preceded her in
death.
She was a homemaker. Some of the happiest days of
her life were spent at Willingham Baptist Church and as
a girl scout. She was a graduate of a nursing assistant
course.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Gale Rigby of
Juliette, brother, Richard G. Champion of Lizella, sisters,
Nita Champion of Carrollton, Teresa Ford Cotton of
Carrollton and Peggy Young of Madison, three grandchil
dren and three great grandchildren.

Doris Mildred Williamson
February 20,1928 - October 17,2008
Doris Mildred Williamson of Forsyth died Friday, Oct.
17, 2008. Funeral services were held Monday at Monroe
County Memorial Chapel with burial in Fairview
Methodist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Franklin
Etheridge officiated.
Mrs. Williamson, the daughter of the late John Henry
and Effie Sealock Mays was born Feb. 20, 1928, in Lamar
County.
Her husband, Tommy Lee Williamson, Sr. preceded her
in death. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her children, Joyce Elaine Buchanan
of Jackson, Beverly Jane Belknap of Thomaston, James
R. Williamson of Milledgeville, Tommy Lee Williamson,
Jr. of Forsyth and Barry Edward Williamson of Forsyth,
brother, Billy Mays of Forsyth, 10 grandchildren and 15
great grandchildren.
