County Arts Alliance
Pumpkin Festival will be

There will be inflatables,
arts and crafts with spin
art, sand art, scratch art,
pumpkin painting, jewelry
making, a costume con
test, pumpkin decorating
contest, games with prizes
and more fun activities.

night

Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. in
the vacant lot behind
Farmer’s Furniture. The
movie shown will be
“Horton Hears a Who.”

Flu shots available at
health department
The Monroe County
Health Department is
offering seasonal flu vac
cinations. There are two
types of flu vaccine avail
able: the flu shot, which
will cost $25 and a limit
ed amount of Flu Mist, a
vaccine that is sprayed up
the nose, which will cost
$35. Flu vaccines are
available at no charge to
those on Medicaid,
Peachcare and Medicare
Part B.
No appointment is nec
essary. Walk-in hours are
from 8 a.m. to 12 noon
and from 1 to 3:45 p.m.
Everybody is encour
aged to be vaccinated, but
particularly:
• People 50 years old or
older
• Children six months
to 18 years old
• Adults and children
with chronic health con
ditions
• Women who will be at
any stage of pregnancy
during flu season
• People who can spread
the flu to those at high
risk (i.e. caregivers)
• Healthcare workers
• Anyone who wants to
prevent getting the flu
The health department
is also offering the pneu
monia vaccine. This vac
cine is recommended for
everyone age 65 or older
and anyone under 65 with
a chronic illness (i.e. dia
betes, chronic lung dis
ease, chronic heart dis
ease,chronic liver disease,
alcoholism, sickle cell dis
ease, splenectomy,
immunocompromised per
sons or those who have
had a choclear implant).

Some individuals qualify
for the vaccine at a
reduced price.

Mystery dinner set for Dec.
The Forsyth-Monroe
County Chamber of
Commerce is sponsoring a
night of mystery and
intrigue worth millions
Dec. 5. That’s when the
Royal Palm Caboose will
be transformed into
Mystery Manor for an
evening filled with mur
der and mystery in order
to commemorate the
death of the late million
aire, Rick A. Rochester.
Rick's dying wish was
that his will reading to be
a party thrown in his
honor to gather those
most important in his life.
As one of Rick's closest
confidants or family mem
bers, it is your help that
is needed to piece togeth
er his mystifying death
and to avoid being the
victim of yet another mur
der.
Dinner begins at 6:30

Substitute teacher teaming Oct 31
Georgia Board of
Education Policy mandates
that anyone wishing to
serve as substitute teach
ers must receive four hours
of in-service training
before their names may be
added to the list of
approved substitutes.
The follow up to the
three-hour training will be
held on Oct. 31 at 9 a.m. at
the Monroe County Board
of Education. Registration
is required. Call Sheila
Smith at 994-2031 by Oct.
27 to register. The class is
limited to 12 people. An
application for employment
should be on file at the
Monroe County Board of
Education before attending
the session. Additional
paperwork will be complet
ed and fingerprints will be
taken following he session.
Applicants should come
to the meeting prepared to
be fingerprinted. There is a
$26 fee for the fingerprint
ing. Applicants should
bring a copy of their high
school diploma or GED and
official college transcripts.
Driver's license and social
security card should also
be brought to the meeting.
Other documentation need
ed for payroll purposes will
be discussed and complet
ed at the meeting.
Persons holding a valid
or expired Georgia teach
ing certificate or who have
previously attended substi
tute training through
another system or persons
who are reapplying do
need to come to the one
hour local training.
Backlot Flayers seek musicale singers
The Backlot Players need
singers for the 2009
Forsythia Festival
Musicale. Rehearsals will
be on Monday nights at 7
p.m. beginning in January.
Show dates are Friday,
Saturday and Sunday,
March 6, 7 and 8, 2009 at
The Rose Theater.
Glenn Gregg will direct
and Janice Veal will be the
accompanist. There is a
$20 fee for music purchase
