Ophthalmologists to
Medical eye care is com
ing to Monroe County.
After years of service in
the Macon area, board-cer
tified ophthalmologists J.
Gregory Jones MD and
Jeffrey B. Crowder MD are
joining the staff of the
Monroe County Hospital.
They will be opening an
office in the Monroe
County Hospital Specialty
Clinic to provide compre
hensive eye examinations
and treatment.
“This is an exciting time
for our practice,” says Dr.
Greg Jones, who has pro
vided medical and surgical
eye care for patients in
Macon for over twenty
years. “We have been look
ing forward to reaching out
to communities outside of
Macon, and Forsyth is an
ideal location to start a
satellite office. Monroe
County has a solid group of
medical providers and
optometrists, and we look
forward to assisting them
with their patients. In
fact, we already see a num
ber of patients from
Monroe County, and now
many of them can receive
our care without having to
make the trip to Macon.”
At their new office adja
cent to the Monroe County
Hospital, Dr. Jones and Dr.
Crowder will provide many
of the same services they
offer in their main location
in Macon. They are hoping
that they will see enough
patients to quickly expand
their facilities and hours in
Forsyth. Dr. Jeff Crowder,
who recently moved to
Forsyth, is particularly
interested in making this
new location successful.
“As a physician, I consid
er it important to be
involved in my home com
munity,” says Dr. Crowder.
My wife and I enjoy living
in Forsyth, and we have
made some great friends
here. We want this new
office to be valuable to the
people of Monroe County,
and we want to help serve
the doctors in this area.
We will grow our services
to meet the needs of our
patients.”
There are many medical

conditions and diseases
involving the eyes that
can’t be fixed by glasses
alone. Dr. Jones and Dr.
Crowder are qualified to
diagnose and treat these
conditions. Medical issues
that affect the eyes include
dry eyes and tear instabili
ty, eye allergies and infec
tions, diabetic eye disease,
glaucoma, cataracts, and
macular degeneration, and
many others. Fortunately,
many sight-threatening
eye disorders can be
detected early with routine
comprehensive eye exams.
Beginning Dec. 11, Dr.
Jones and Dr. Crowder will
be seeing patients at the
Monroe County Hospital
Specialty Clinic. To make
an appointment, contact
their Macon office at 741-
1740, and be sure to let
them know that you wish
to be seen at their new
Forsyth location.
Hill Daniel
continued from the front page
ran off the road and flipped several
times.
Matthew was able to crawl from the
car with some cuts and bruises, but
Hill was trapped, his back badly
injured.
Hill and Matthew were taken to the
Medical Center. Matthew was treated
and released, but Hill’s condition was
uncertain. Hill suffered damage to his
spinal cord and remains paralyzed
from the waist down. Hill was trans
ported to Shepherd Spinal Clinic in
Atlanta on Friday and underwent even
more tests and examinations. He is
scheduled for surgery Thursday, Nov.
20 to stabilize his spine.
His parents, Jackson and Theresa
Daniel, remain optimistic and say the
family has been overwhelmed by the
outpouring of love and support since
the accident. They continue to pray for
a miracle.
“Everyone has been wonderful,” said
Jackson, the assistant superintendent
of Monroe County schools and former
Reporter editor. ”It has meant so much
to us and to Hill.”
The family has set up a web page at
www.carepages.com/carepages/Hill to
keep friends up to date on Hill’s
progress.
In just three days, Hill and his family
received over 150 posts on the website
— everything from encouraging words
to prayers to offers of help.
“[The website] has been a blessing. It
has been humbling to know how many
people care so much for us,” said
Jackson.
Hill and family are relying on their
strong faith to get through this.
“We are trying our best to put it in
God’s hands. When people ask if
there’s anything they can do, we tell
them to pray. Prayer is what is needed
right now,” said Jackson. ‘We can feel
the prayers, believe me.”
Jackson says Hill’s spirits are as good
as they can be and he is ready to prove
everyone wrong about his prognosis.
He was able to eat a little something
on his own over the weekend and his
feeding tube was removed. Hill is
allowed to have visitors, but Jackson
cautions that over the next few days
he will need to rest as much as possi
ble in preparation for the lengthy sur
gery.
Hill’s positive attitude will be a vital
part to any possible recovery. Hill is an
MP soccer player. He was recently
accepted to attend LaGrange College
next fall. He had planned to play soc
cer there. Jackson says his love of soc
cer may just be the motivation he
needs.
“We have not been told it’s perma
nent and we have not been told he will
recover,” said Jackson. “We are waiting
to see how the surgery goes Thursday
and we’ll see where we are. Hill’s a
fighter and he’s going to work hard.”
A fund has been set up at Farmers
Bank to help the Daniel family with
expenses. His friends and soccer team
mates also hope to hold a play-a-thon
in the near future to raise money as
well.
