This weekend last chance to

Hunter, Gene Monroe, Sam Watson, Sarah Harrell and William Stevick. Based on Charles
Dickens’ novel, the musical continues this week at 8 p.m. on Nov. 20, 21,22 at the Rose
Theater, 23 W. Johnston St. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $8 for students.
Box office hours are 4:30 to 6 p.m. the week before the show, two hours prior to evening per
formances and one hour prior to matinees. Call 994-0443 to reserve tickets. Mastercard and

Fine Arts
continued from the front page
right now. Among them,
Hubbard Middle School and
the Achievement Center both
need a new roof, Mary Persons
needs a new roof air condition
ing unit and the MP baseball
field is in dire need of repairs.
“With everything we have
that needs work and the econo
my the way it is right now, I
just don’t think it’s the best
time to be building a $4 million
auditorium,” said Pack. “I do
believe fine arts are important.
That auditorium would be a
great benefit to the school, but
right now we think it’s best to
focus on the immediate needs.
We also may need some of that
SPLOST money to help pay for
books or buses if funding con
tinues to be tight. We have to
cut back some, just the way
many others in this county are
having to cut back.”
Pack says the fine arts center
will be built after critical
repairs and equipment have
been paid for and more
SPLOST funds become avail
able. The auditorium, set to be
built on the Mary Persons cam
pus, will seat 740, double the
seating capacity of the current
auditorium at the central
office. For now, says Pack, the
Department of Corrections has
agreed to allow the schools to
use the auditorium at the Tift
campus once renovations are
complete next year.
“That’s the best immediate
solution,” said Pack. “It’s only
three blocks over and can seat
as many. As soon as we finish
the critical projects and more
SPLOST money comes in, we
will build our own auditorium.”
