Lena Mae Freeman Bozeman
Lena Mae Freeman Bozeman, 73, of Forsyth, died
Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008. Funeral services were held Nov.
1 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, with burial in
Rest Haven Cemetery.
Survivors include husband, Lonnie Bozeman; sons,
Nathaniel (Georgia) Freeman, Lonnie (Joan) Bozeman, J.
Ricky Bozeman and John Alecia Bozeman; daughters,
Audrey Bozeman; 23 grandchildren and 15 great grand
children; brother and sisters, Weldon (Susan) Freeman,
Samuel (Geraldine) Freeman, McArthur (Shirley)
Freeman, Fred Alice Sentar, Louise Bowden and Lynette
(Albert) Mays; sister-in-law, Beatrice Freeman; aunt,
Bertha Roberts.
Freeman Funeral Home of Forsyth had charge of the
arrangements.
Sarah Margaret Carswell Dodd
November 15,1922 - November 13,2008
Sarah Margaret Carswell Dodd, 85, of Toccoa, passed
away Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008 in the Stephens County
Hospital.
The daughter of the late Charles Hadden and Margaret
Ellard Carswell, she was born Nov. 15, 1922 in Liberty,
S.C. and had lived most of her life in Stephens County.
She was a member of Toccoa Creek Baptist Church,
Emma Brock Sunday School Class, WMU, United
Daughters of the Confederacy, Stephens County Hospital
Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Ebenezer Baptist 2/20,
and the Singing Saints. She was employed with Belk for
some 22 years and a recent resident of the Clary Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence
C. Dodd, Sr.; a grandson, Greg Hayes; sisters, Carol
Hayes, Joan Scott, and Betty Kelley; brothers, Charles
and Robert Carswell.
Suvivors include four daughters and their husbands,
Ann and James Hayes of Clarkesville, Donna and Ronnie
Brady of Martin, Renee and Allen Ware of Eastanollee,
and Melinda and Barry Adams of Toccoa; two sons and
their wives, Larry and Glenda Dodd of Lavonia and Mike
and Jennie Dodd of Forsyth; sister, Jean Scott of Toccoa;
grandchildren and their spouses, Matt and Janet Hayes,
Jim Hayes, DeeDee and Buzz Arrowood, Dr. Ernest Dodd
and Dr. Jill Mallory, Jon Eric and Kim Dodd, Corbin
Dodd, Jonda and Rodney Fowler, Jenny and Michael
King, Jeremy and Jessica Ware, Allie Ware, Sarahbeth
Adams, and Hannah Adams; great-grandchildren,
Savannah Hayes, Cheyenne Hayes, Tripp Arrowood,
Hutch Arrowood, Hank Arrowood, Rhett Arrowood, Iris
Mallory Dodd, Matthew Dodd, Dalton Fowler, Jake
Murray, Boone King, Carter Ware and Grant Ware.
Funeral Services were held Sunday, Nov. 16 at Toccoa
Creek Baptist Church with the Reverends Charles Taylor
and Wayne Marcus officiating.
Serving as pallbearers were Jim Hayes, Matt Hayes,
Ernie Dodd, Jon Eric Dodd, Corbin Dodd and Jeremy
Ware. Honorary escort was Tripp Arrowood, Hutch
Arrowood, Dalton Fowler and Members of the UDC.
Memorials may be made to Stephens County Hospital
Ladies Auxiliary, 2003 Falls Road, Toccoa, GA 30577 or to
Toccoa Creek Baptist Church, 1633 Talmadge Drive,
Toccoa, GA 30577.
Interment was in Chopped Oak Baptist Church
Cemetery with Rev. Vernon Dorminey officiating.

Margie Nell Meek Dorner
February 19,1913 - November 13,2008
Mrs. Margie Nell Meek Dorner went to be with her
heavenly family on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008. She was pre
ceded in death by her husband of 43 years, her two
brothers and three sisters. She was born on Feb. 19, 1913
in Forsyth and lived there until her marriage to John
Dorner Jr. when she moved to Jacksonville, FL. She
resided there until five years ago when she moved to
Brevard and resided at The Cedar Mountain House. She
moved to Tore's Home after a short hospital stay.
Nell is survived by her only son, John Dorner III and
his wife, Connie, of Brevard; grandson John Dorner IV
and his wife, Cathy, of Cedar Mountain; granddaughter,
Cheryl Keelan and her husband, Bill, of Stoneham Co.
She has five great grandchildren, Kellie Keelan, John
"Quint" Dorner V, Kristin Keelan, Jake Dorner, and Will
Kellan. She is also survived by many nieces and
nephews.
She was a member of the Murray Hill Baptist Church
in Jacksonville and attended First United Methodist in
Brevard. Her life work and true joy was making dance
costumes for ballerinas

Graveside services were held Saturday, Nov. 22 at
Forsyth City Cemetery. Monroe County Memorial Chapel
has charge of arrangements.
Lou Willie Powell
Lou Willie Powell, age 90, of Forsyth, went home to be
with the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008. She was
daughter of the late Willie Neal and Flossie Cleveland.
She married the late David Powell Sr. in 1933.
Survivors include children, David (Evonne) Powell Jr. of
Stratford, CT, Mildred (Patrick) Hunter of Stratford, CT,
Doris (Ralph) Ogletree of Forsyth, Hazel (James) Jones of
Stockbridge, Marvin (Emma) Powell of Inman, SC, Ralph
E. Powell of Forsyth, Linda (Melvin) Mebane of West
Haven, CT, Cozetta (Dennis) Pettway of Bridgeport, CT,
Rickey L. Powell of Forsyth and James (Sue) Powell of
Stone Mountain; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services were held Nov. 3 at Kynette United Methodist
Church. Interment was in Forsyth Cemetery.
Freeman Funeral Home of Forsyth had charge of the
arrangements.

Henry “Al” Gilland
November 14,1938 - November 14,2008
Henry Alvin Gilland of Barnesville died Friday, Nov. 14,
2008. Funeral services were held Sunday,
Nov. 16 at New Beginning Pentecostal
Church. Mark Goolsby and the Rev.
Darrell Corbin officiated.
Mr. Gilland, the son of the late
Charles Reese and Stella Mae
Griffin Gilland was born November
14, 1938 in Louisville, Kentucky. His
first wife, Betty Jo Meredith Gilland,
his brother, Charles Gilland and his
sisters, Lula Minter and Ella Fowler
preceded him in death.
Mr. Gilland was a supervisor with Brown and
Williamson, retiring after 30 years of service. He was a
veteran of the United States Marines and a Kentucky
Colonel. He was a member of Bells Ferry Baptist Church
in Kentucky.
Survivors include his wife Shirley Gilland of
Barnesville; children, David (Donna) Gilland of Benton,
Ky, Dan (Deena) Gilland of Conyers, Debbie Gilland
(John) Daniel of Athens; step-children, Robby (Jessica)
Wood of Macon, Teri Wood of Dallas, Tx; sister, Cora
Thompson of Louisville, Ky, brother, Lawrence (Doris)
Gilland of Louisville, Ky; grandchildren, Joseph, Jordan,
Jamie, Alison and Alex Gilland, Will, Lauren, Allen and
Hannah Daniel; step-grandchildren, Nichole, Christina,
Chris and Nick Wood, Madison, Faith and Taylor Crabb,
Dustin Sargent and Austin O’Steen; several nieces and
nephews.

James Michael Strickland
January 26,1950 - November 10,2008
James Michael Strickland died Monday, Nov. 10, 2008.
Graveside services were held Nov. 13 at Monroe Hills
Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Strickland, the son of the late James Washington
and Charlie Lorene Ivy Strickland was born Jan. 26,
1950 in Pike County. His wife, Barbara Anne Strickland
preceded him in death. Mr. Strickland was retired from
the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department and was a vet
eran of the United States Navy.
Survivors include his daughter, Barbie Michelle
Strickland of Forsyth; sister, Judy Bowman of Forsyth;
brother, Samuel L. Henry of Alabama; grandchildren,
Kendra Walton, Kellie Walton, and Tyler Strickland.

Fletcher Mae Zellner
Fletcher Mae Zellner of Forsyth died Thursday, Nov. 6,
2008. A homegoing celebration was held Nov. 11 at Rocky
Mount United Methodist Church in Barnesville, with
burial in the church cemetery.
She leaves to cherish her memories four children,
Mannon (Janice) Zellner, Sr., Bernice Zellner, Mary E.
Zellner and Larry Zellner; daughter-in-law, Elnora J.
Zellner, all of Forsyth; 11 grandchildren and 18 great
grandchildren.

Kimoni JaMarion Hughley
Infant Kimoni JaMarion Hughley died Sunday,
November 9, 2008. Graveside services were held
Saturday, Nov. 15 in Mt. Gilead Cemetery.
Survivors include parents, Terrica Lawson and Terrell
Hughley; brothers and sister, Rashad, Adrian and
Juriyah Hughley; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Rufus
Jackson and Mr. and Mrs. James Hughley, a host of
aunts, uncles, and other relatives.

Bessie Lue Morgan
Bessie Lue Morgan, 66, of Forsyth, died Thursday, Nov.
6, 2008. Funeral services were held Nov. 10 at Tessie Hall
Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.
She is survived by her daughter, Kenosha Morgan;
sons, Henry Morgan and Samuel Calloway; sisters, Mary
Stewart, Lesa (Edward) Cheves, Debra (Charles) Wilder,
Jr., Barbara (Rev. Edgar) Slaughter; brothers, Josephus
(Wylene) Calloway, William (Mary) Calloway, James
(Geraldine) Calloway, Willie Robinson; six grandchildren
and five great-grandchildren; aunts, Annie Maude
Gordon and Rosa Jones.

Dr. Benjamin Franklin Parrish
May 11,1920 - November 12,2008
Dr. Benjamin Franklin Parrish, 88, of the High Falls
area, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008 in Monroe
County. Dr. Parrish was born May 11, 1920 in Metter. He
was the son of the late Ben and Eula Franklin Parrish.
For many years, he owned and operated Parrish Drugs in
Jackson. He was a member of First Baptist Church of
High Falls. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served
in World War II.
Dr. Parrish is survived by his daughter and son-in-law,
Debbie and Tommy Fletcher of Jackson; son, Benji
Parrish of Nashville, Tenn; grandchildren, Tiffany and
Nick Hubbard, Adam Fletcher, Lily Parrish and Henry
Parrish; one great-grandchild, Colby Hubbard; sister,
Dora Elizabeth DeLoach of Smyrna; several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services were held Nov. 14 at the Jackson City
Cemetery. Dr. Ed Hoard officiated. Sherrell, Wilson,
Mangham Funeral Home of Jackson had charge of the
arrangements.
Joyce Marshall Ruffin
July 25,1925 - November 10,2008
Joyce Marshall Ruffin of Forsyth died Monday, Nov. 10,
2008. Graveside services were held Nov. 13, 2008 at
Rogers United Methodist Church Cemetery. The Rev.
Matt Yawn officiated.
Mrs. Ruffin, the daughter of the late Walter and
Margaret Coleman Marshall was born July 25, 1925 in
Monroe County. Her husband, Robert Lewis Ruffin and
her son, Tommy Ruffin preceded her in death. She was a
homemaker and was previously employed with Carters’
and Bibb Mill Company.
Survivors include her children, Jerry and Betty Ruffin
of Wetumpka, Alabama, Vic and Donna Ruffin of
Culloden, Eddie and Cheryl Ruffin of Barnesville, Johnny
Ruffin of Macon and Steve Melton of Gainesville, Fla; 10
grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
