Students visit elderly
The students of the Monroe
County Achievement Center
paid a visit to some of Forsyth’s
more elderly citizens, when
they stopped by Forsyth
Heritage Healthcare and the
Monroe County Senior Citizen’s
Center recently. The students’
primary mission was to rein
force the meaning of
Thanksgiving and spread a lit
tle cheer among the residents
at the same time.
The visit was capped off by
MCAC student, Robert Parrish
when he delivered a speech on
relationships. When asked of
his experience at the facilities,
Parrish said, “I was a little
nervous about speaking, but I
got comfortable. Speaking to
those people made me feel real
ly good inside. It was obvious
they listened to what I said
and that is an honor that I will
not forget.”

MP accepts Kids Yule Love challenge
By Courtney McDaniel
Every year senior classes come together to raise
more money than the previous year for needy chil
dren. The goal this year is to exceed a $7,000 in
cash and toy donations, which was the total raised
by the class of 2008.
This year’s grand total will be revealed during the
senior Christmas assembly Friday, Dec. 12. Seniors
were asked to decorate boxes and posters for every
teacher’s room. Senior students are accepting
donations and new toys. Senior, Brianne
Stevenson, was inspired by her brother, Matt
Stevenson, to participate in the toy drive. “My
brother meant the world to me, to watch him give
so much to those who had so less inspired me to do
the same.”
If you want to help or get involved with Kids Yule
Love, look for the box, or listen for the bell. Kids
are counting on you.
MP principal Jim Finch and senior sponsor Pat Busby applaud
the students at last year’s Kids Yule Love program. The class of
2009 hopes to top last year’s haul.
The week before Christmas
By Devon Bezold
'Twas the week before
Christmas, when all
through MP,
Not a student was lis
tening, all eager to leave;
The students were rest
less for the end of the
week,
Waiting for days when
they could oversleep;
The students were
chattering all slumped in
their desks,
While visions of new
gifts interrupted their
tests;
And Mr. Finch with his
whistle, getting students
to class,
Yelling through the
halls “Only a few days
left,”
When out in the hall
there arose such a ring
ing,
It was Ms. Busby, with
her Christmas bell ding
ing,
Making generous deci
sions that were quite
rash,
Students fumbled
around for spare change
and some cash.
As their donations hit
the basket with their
clinks and their clanks
They were returned
with a “Merry
Christmas” and a big
“Thanks.”
Time now to count the
number of toys
To make Christmas
brighter for some girls
and some boys.
The Seniors prepared
the toys to be rounded,
While Ms. Busby had
the donations all count
ed.
It was time for the
school to see what
they’ve given,
To the gym it was time
for the school to be driv
en;
"Now, Smith! Now,
Slaughter! Now, Bunn
and Benford!
On, Sparks! On, Speir!
On, Morrow and Ford!
To the end of the
school! To the end of the
hall!
Now to the gym! To the
gym! To the gym all!"
The students all hur
ried to get in the bleach
ers,
Each ushered along by
one of their teachers,
Some dressed in their
festive holiday apparel,
as Mrs. McCord direct
ed the chorus in holiday
carols.
When all the toys were
finally brought out,
The sum of money was
then announced
The students and
teachers were filled with
cheer,
Knowing they had
made Christmas better
this year.
Then the bell rang and
the students went home,
For the time until test
ing wasn’t that long;
As finals grew closer,
students had to hurry,
They needed time to
study and they started to
worry.
The importance of pass
ing was constantly
stressed
For every class was
required to take a long
test,
Study guides reminded
them of all they had been
taught,
Using their textbooks
and notebooks, the
answers they sought.
Three classes a day for
the semester to be
topped,
Students watched the
clock for that torture to
stop.
The announcements
were on, Mr. Finch’s
voice booming,
The teachers told the
students to please stop
moving.
Mr. Finch went on with
news to which no one
cared,
Everyone eyeing the
door, to leave, each was
prepared.
Finally it was over, and
students longed for the
bell,
Ignoring the teachers
all wishing them well.
Anticipation for free
dom, rest and sleep,
Presents, gifts, and
good things to eat,
Each second drew out
into what seemed like
forever,
For it seemed the
Holiday to come would
be never,
Finally, it rang out, and
the students all cheered,
It took merely minutes
for half the school to dis
appear.
But from the 500 wing,
there were some faint
calls of
"Joyeaux Noel” and
"Feliz Navidad”
