PAGE 2B December 31, 2008 The best coverage for Monroe County sports MP softball players named to All-region, All-Middle Georgia and All-State teams Mary Persons junior Chandler Williams was named as honorable mention on the AAA All-State soft- ball team. Williams, who plays first base and pitches occasionaly, played in 35 games this season, had 90 at- bats 46 hits,and a batting average of .511. Williams scored 26 runs and hit 7 doubles, 3 triples and 1 homerun. Williams was also named to the 4AAA All Region team for the third year. She was the runner-up for the region offensive player of the year. Williams is also a first team member of the Telegraph’s All-Middle Georgia team at first base. Also making the 4AAA all-region team were senior Amber Sawley at infield, senior pitcher Kyla Tanner KYLA TANNER and sophomore Sarah Bennett at outfield. Tanner was the runner-up for region 4AAA pitcher of the year. Courtney McDaniel was named to the second team all region. Sawley, Tanner and Bennet were also named as All-Middle Georgia honorable mentions. The Mary Persons Lady Bulldogs finished an unprecedented 20-15 sea son with a trip to the state section als. The team ignited an excitement for softball like never before at MP. “This was an amazing season and this is an amazing group of girls,” coach Ronnie Shipman said at the team’s annual awards banquet held Nov. 6. COURTNEY MCDANIEL AMBRER SAWLEY SARAH BENNETT Junior Chandler Williams broke all sorts of records this year, but watch out because she will be back again next year as a Lady Bull dog. MP football players named to All-region, All-Middle Georgia and All-State teams Two Mary Persons football players have been named to the AAA All-State team for 2008. Senior offensive lineman Jadareius Hamlin and senior kick-off returner Chaz Avery were listed among the first team All-State honorees. Hamlin, who was also named to the first team All-Middle Georgia team and the 4AAA all-region team, is a three-year starter with the Bulldogs. Hamlin has offers from UAB, Georgia Southern, Middle Tennessee, Troy and Western Kentucky. Avery was named to the second team defense for All- Middle Georgia, along with defensive lineman Devarick Jones and punter Devin Chambliss. Wide receiver Chris Bowden was named to the second team offense All Middle Georgia team.
