Historical Society to
learn about
Ga. ’s early years
The Monroe County Historical
Society will meet at 7 p.m. Jan.
5 at the Depot in Forsyth. The
program will be a presentation
by Estelle Ford-Williamson,
author of “Abbeyville Farewell.”
She will speak on the early his
tory and settlement of Georgia
after the American Revolution.
“Abbeyville Farewell” will be
available for purchase ($18)
after the program. Everyone is
welcome to attend. The Depot is
open Wednesday, Thursday &
Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Habitat to take
applications
Monroe County Habitat for
Humanity will be taking appli
cations for housing Saturday,
Jan. 10 at 10 a.m. and Monday,
Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Monroe
County Library.
The application process has
been revised and simplified for
the coming year. The initial
application will consist of two-
pages only and the only docu
mentation required will be for
residency and income verifica
tion: photocopies of (1) most
recent pay stub, (2) most recent
1040 form, & (3) proof of any
other income such as child sup
port, social security or disabili
ty payments.
Further information on how
to qualify for a Habitat house
can be found at Monroe County
Bank, Circle of Care or Monroe
County Library.

Chamber’s annual
dinner slated
The Forsyth-Monroe County
Chamber of Commerce will
hold its annual dinner Jan. 22
at 6 p.m. The event will be
hosted at the Central Georgia
Convention Complex in
Forsyth. The Chamber has
lined up a very exciting and
dynamic guest speaker. Several
awards of distinction will be
presented as well. Do you know
of a business that demonstrat
ed best practices, significantly
increased their employment,
and/or provided exemplary cus
tomer service during 2008?
What about a business that
made an investment in its
facade in 2008? If so, nominate
that business for the Small
Business of the Year Award or
the Golden Nail Award. Must
be nominated by another
Chamber member.
Nomination forms may be
picked up at the Chamber office
or www. forsythmonroecham-
ber.com. Nominations are due
by Dec. 31.

Open House at Pearl
Stephens Village
Alumni, former faculty, staff
and friends of Pearl Stephens
School are invited to a special
open house at the recently com
pleted Pearl Stephens Village
from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25.
Pearl Stephens was one of
Macon’s landmark elementary
schools from 1929 to 1990. The
original school building has
been restored and now has 13
apartments for low-income sen
iors. Three new buildings were
added behind the main school
building, bringing the total
number of apartments to 61.
The open house will include
guided tours of the facility,
beginning in the school’s com
pletely restored auditorium.
Many of the school’s alumni
and faculty have donated mem
orabilia which will be on dis
play during the open house, and
permanently housed in the
original school building.

open Friday, Jan. 2 and Saturday,
Jan 3 for a big bag sale from 9
a.m. to 2 p.m. Fill a small bag for
$4 and a large bag for $6.

County offices offer
limited holiday hours
The Monroe County tag office
and other county offices will close
at 3 p.m. on Dec. 31 and will be
closed Jan. 1 and 2 and will reopen
Monday, Jan. 5

centers will be open
Wednesday, Dec. 31, New
Year’s Eve from 7 a.m. to 7
p.m. The centers are closed
Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009.
Centers will resume nor
mal operating hours on
Friday, Jan. 2, 2009.
Normal operating hours
are Monday, Wednesday,
Friday and Saturday from
7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and
Sunday from 1-7 p.m. All
centers are closed on
Tuesday and Thursday.
There will also be an area
in each center designated
for Christmas tree collec
tion. However, yard trim
mings, construction, demo
lition and home remodeling
waste will not be accepted
from Wednesday, Dec. 17
to Sunday, Jan. 4. Normal
collection practices will
resume Monday, Jan. 5.

Notice of Proposed Budget for the
City of Forsyth
Notice is hereby given that the Mayor and Council of
the City of Forsyth will conduct a public hearing to
consider a proposed budget for the City of Forsyth for
the year 2009, on the 30th day of December, 2008, at
10:00 AM, or as soon thereafter as the matter may be
reached, at Council Chambers of the City of Forsyth at
City Hall Annex, at which time any person wishing to
be heard on the budget may appear.
And on the 6th day of January, 2009, at 7:00PM or
as soon thereafter as the matter may be reached, the
Mayor and Council of the City of Forsyth at Council
Chambers at City Hall Annex will consider the adop
tion of a resolution enacting the budget for the year
2008.
A copy of the proposed budget is on file in the office
of the Clerk of the City of Forsyth at City Hall and
may be examined and inspected by the public at such
place during regular business hours.
