County funds new 911 system
BY WENDELL

The commission approved
$330,000 for the E-911
System and a six year
lease of $17,591 annually
for the Sleuth CAD
System. Sheriff John Cary
Bittick said he believes the
systems would provide the
state-of-the-art service the
department needs.
Commissioner Jim Ham
made the motion to
approve, and
Commissioner Jim Peters
seconded. The vote was
unanimous.

Leadership Monroe class graduates
The 2008 class of Leadership Monroe held its graduation last month in the Monroe Room at the Holi
day Inn with Rep. Jim Cole (R-Forsyth) as the guest speaker. Leadership Monroe is a leadership pro
gram sponsored annually by the Forsyth-Monroe County Chamber of Commerce. Class members learn
about local educational and government, state-wide issues, visit local industries and the state capitol
and discuss ways to improve life in the county. The 2008 class included, from left, standing, Kevin
Davis, Steve Gramling, Bo Harris, Van Cole, O.J. Booker, Bob Sanderson and Will Davis. Seated are
Anne Jones, Christy Chewning and Lakeshia Johnson. Class members Alex Vento and Connie Ham
were unable to attend. Sanderson was the class president. Standing right is chamber president Tiffany
Andrews, who moderates the class.
Miller retires
The Monroe County Tax office held a retirement party for long-time
tax commissioner Patsy Miller on Tuesday, Dec. 30. Miller has
served as Tax Commissioner for about 13 years and decided this
year was as good as any to retire. "The main reason I decided to re
tire was because of my age and wanting to spend time with family,"
Miller said. Miller's daughter, Nell Onstott, is a first grade teacher
at T.G. Scott Elementary. Miller said she is looking forward to
working with her daughter as a substitute teacher.
