AARP driver course
rescheduled
The Monroe County Chapter of
AARP has rescheduled the
Driver Safety Program to Jan.
22-23. Classes will meet at the
First Baptist Church in Forsyth
from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Those who
participate in the course will be
eligible for discounts of most
automobile insurance policies for
the next three years. There is no
physical, written, or on-the-road
test. The instructor is an AARP
Driver Safety Program Volunteer.
It is open to all ages.

Chamber’s annual
dinner slated
The Forsyth-Monroe County
Chamber of Commerce will hold
its annual dinner Jan. 22 at 6
p.m. The event will be hosted at
the Central Georgia Convention
Complex in Forsyth. The
Chamber has lined up a very
exciting and dynamic guest
speaker, Chuck Ewart.

Author night at the
Taylor House
Forsyth's Taylor House is pre
senting "Curl Up With a Good
Book", an evening of entertain
ment with presentations by
Monroe's local authors Jan. 23
from 5:45 to 8 p.m. at the Taylor
House. The presentations will
include children's author, Karen
Cromer, memoir and mystery
writer Anne Jones, inspirational
fiction author Kelli Bowden,
nature-memoir writer Niki
Collins-Queen, fiction authors
Frances Davis and Misty Lott
and short story writer and novel
ist Buzz Tanner.
This cozy winter evening will
also include a homemade soup
supper with bread and dessert.
Tickets are $10 each (includes
meal). Reservations are limited.

prayer breakfast
The Angel's Relay for Life team
will host their annual prayer
breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Saturday,
Jan. 24 at the Monroe County
Clubhouse. Donation $6. All pro

The Ebenezer United Methodist
Church Relay for Life Team will
kick off its season of fundraisers
with a Tea Party with Mark
Ballard on Saturday, Jan. 31.
Invitations to this event of food,
fellowship and fun are available
for a donation of $25. Make

MGCG bus to
SE flower show
Join the Master Gardeners of
Central Georgia on their bus to
the Southeastern Flower Show in
Atlanta on Thursday, Jan. 29.
The cost, including admission,
bus and snacks, is $28. The bus
will leave Ingles in Forsyth at

Kiwanis blood drive
Kiwanis will sponsor a blood-
drive on Thursday, Jan. 29 from
2-8 p.m. Donors can give blood in
the City Annex room and blood-
mobile. This event is open to the
public.

Middle Georgia teacher
recruitment day
A teacher recruitment day will
be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on
Saturday, Jan. 31 at Westside
High School in Macon. School
systems from Bibb, Crawford,
Jones, Monroe, Peach and Twiggs
counties will have representa
tives there and will be interview
ing new teachers for the 2009-10
school year. All interested and
qualified persons are invited to
attend. Please bring at least 20
copies of your resume.
There will also be representa
tives from the Middle Georgia
RESA to provide sessions and
discuss the Teacher Alternative
Preparation Program (TAPP) at
9:15, 10:15 and 11:15 a.m. To be
considered for the TAPP pro
gram, you must have a four-year
college degree with a minimum
2.5 GPA; passed or exempted
GACE Basic Skills assessment; a
job offer from one of the six coun

February is black
history month
In honor of Black History
month, there will be an exhibit
featuring local African-
Americans that will be on display
for the month of February at the
Hollis House in Forsyth.

Historical Society meets
The Monroe County Historical
Society will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 2
at the Depot in Forsyth. Special
guests will be "The Two
Marthas.” Barbara Fincher and
Jane Hampton will be perform
ing.
Good crowd expected at chamber banquet Thurs.
The Chamber of Commerce annual meet
ing is Thursday, Jan. 22, at the Central
Georgia Convention Complex in Forsyth.
The theme this year is "My Business, My
Chamber...Together We Can!" Chuck Ewart
will be the guest speaker for this year's
event.
The dress is business attire and the
evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a network
ing reception followed by dinner, the meet
ing, and awards ceremony. The award cate
gories are Small Business of the Year, the
Golden Nail Award, Volunteer of the Year,
Citizen of the Year, and Customer Service
Award.
Chamber members are asked to send
attendees’ names to the chamber office by
Wednesday. You may make payments on line
or bring a check to the event. For more

Forsythia pageant apps due by Feb. 20
Applications for the 2009 Forsythia
Pageant are now being accepted.
Entry forms are available at all local
schools, the Forsyth-Monroe County
Chamber of Commerce or by calling
Wanda Hopson at 478-447-2228.
The applications are accepted on a
first-corn, first-served basis. Only the
first 15 girls in each age category
will be accepted.
Miss Forsythia will win a $200 sav
ings bond. Applications for the teen
age category and Miss Forsythia are
due by Feb. 20. Applications for all
other age categories are due by Feb.
27.
Monroe Cares to host writer's workshop
Come explore the writing
and publishing world. The
Monroe County Library is
hosting a workshop on
“Becoming A Successful
Writer” at 6 p.m. Monday,
Feb. 9. Learn how to hook
your reader, build charac
ters, develop dialogue and
use setting. This workshop
is open to the public and
admission is free. Just
bring a canned food item
for Monroe Cares.
