With baby in car, Fla. woman gets DUI-drugs
BY LAURA
THACKSTON
A Port Richie, Fla. woman was
arrested Friday, Jan. 9 accused of
driving under the influence of
drugs with her seven month old
son in the car.
According to a sheriffs report,
Sgt. Hull was conducting a check
point on Juliette Road at 4:34
p.m. when he looked up and saw
a silver Isuzu Rodeo turn around
at the top of the hill. The driver,
Jamie Lee Dixon, nearly caused
an accident as she headed back
toward Forsyth.
Hull got into his patrol car and
caught up to Dixon. Just as he
was about to turn on his lights,
Dixon tried to turn into a drive
way. She missed the driveway
and ran into a ditch. According to
the report, Dixon continuously
put her car in drive, then reverse
as she tried to get out of the
ditch. Dixon's wheels were spin
ning and Hull told her she was
n't going to be able to drive out.
When Hull asked her where
she was going, she said that the
house belonged to her aunt and
uncle. She told Hull that her
aunt's name was Janet and that
the couple's last name was
Dixon. Deputy Beck talked to the
homeowner, who said he had no
idea who the woman was.
Dixon said she had her driver's
license but couldn't find it.
According to the report, she
looked at the same three cards
several times before Hull told
her to stop and get out of the car.
She continued looking for her
driver's license and Hull had to
tell her a second time to get out
of the car.
According to the report, Dixon
told Hull she was taking pre
scription medications. She failed
sobriety tests and agreed to give
a blood sample. Lt. Ayer came
and got her seven month old son
while Deputy Seckinger took
Dixon to the Monroe County
Hospital. At the hospital,
Seckinger told Hull that Dixon
had been moving around a lot in
the backseat. According to the
report, police found a meth pipe
in the patrol car. At that point,
Dixon told Hull she no longer
wanted to take a blood test.
Dixon was searched and trans
ported to the Monroe County
Jail. Police later found a pill bot
tle containing 40 pills of different
shapes and sizes in the center
console of her car.
Dixon was charged with driving
under the influence of drugs,
endangering a child by DUI, sus
pended license and failure to
keep drugs in original container.

time after midnight when
he tried to clear the gun,
causing it to fire and shoot

Patrol car, Buck
Creek Market
damaged by
paint balls
At 8:56 a.m. on Jan. 10
deputies were dispatched
to Buck Creek Market in
reference to vandalism.
The clerk said she opened
the store that morning and
noticed that someone had
fired several shots from a
paint ball gun and had hit
the front of the building.
There were several orange
impact stains on the win
dows and front door. There
was no structural damage.
At 9:27 a.m. police received
a similar call from the
Monroe County Sheriff’s
sub-station. Someone had
apparently fired paint balls
at a marked sheriff’s
patrol car. There were sev
eral orange paint ball
smears along the driver’s
side but there did not
appear to be any body
damage to the car. There
was also an orange smear
on the window next to the
front door of the sub-sta

at this time.
Brothers’ fight
At 7:18 p.m. on Jan. 10
Deputy Miller was dis
patched to the Twin Pines
trailer park in reference to
a fight. The victim’s moth
er had called and said that
her son was involved in a
fight and was trying to
hide from the suspects. The
victim said he and his
brother were involved in a
fight earlier that day and
his brother had pulled a
knife on him. He said the
suspect had called him at
7:30 p.m. and told him he
was bringing a birthday
present to his house and
was going to kick in the
door. The victim thought he
was going to bring a
weapon to the house.
At 8:20 p.m., Miller called
the victim’s mother and
she said she had witnessed
the fight earlier that day.
She was afraid the suspect
and victim would hurt each
other but then found out
the suspect was some
where near Savannah. She
asked police to patrol the
area.
Teen charged
with DUI,
causing wreck
At 6:50 p.m. on Jan. 10
Deputy Jackson was dis
patched to an accident
involving several vehicles
on 1-75 north. One of the
witnesses had already told
dispatch that the car that
caused the accident was
speeding. Before Jackson
could ask any questions, a
man admitted that he had
been speeding and caused
the accident. There was a
strong odor of alcohol com
ing from the driver and
passenger. Jackson told
them that they needed to
be examined by Monroe
County EMS, but they
refused and said they
weren’t injured. Because
the driver and passenger
were under 21, Jackson
gave them a breath test.
The driver and passenger
tested positive for alcohol
consumption and said they
had been drinking. Both
were arrested and trans
ported to the Monroe
County Jail. At the jail, the
driver blew a .133 and .129
during the breathalyzer
test. He was charged with
failure to maintain lane,
driving too fast for condi

charged with underage
drinking and permitting an
intoxicated person to drive.
