CAR helps
kids during
holidays
The Liberty Tree Society,
Children of the American
Revolution joined Georgia
DAR chapters at a
Christmas Party for stu
dents of Tamassee School,
hosted by the William
McIntosh Chapter in
Jackson. DAR Chapters
adopted students of the
school for Christmas and
provided gifts and goodies
for the children to cele
brate the holidays. Liberty
Tree CAR also adopted a
child and provided her
with gifts and school sup
plies. The hosting chapter
provided a wonderful pizza
and lasagna lunch while
the students sorted
through stockings, opened
gifts and loaded up on
sweets for their trip home.
The Tamassee DAR
School is located in the
foothills of the Blue Ridge
Mountains in the upper
northwest corner of South
Carolina. Tamassee DAR
School has served thou
sands of needy children
seeking a chance to suc
ceed in life, putting behind
them histories of poverty,
abuse, neglect, or misun
derstanding.
Focusing on each child's
fullest growth and develop
ment, life at Tamassee
emphasizes faith in God,
high morals, citizenship,
and patriotism as the foun
dation to academics, family
life, and social activities.
From a beginning with 100
acres and one building in
1919, Tamassee has grown
to a campus encompassing
more than 800 acres and
30 buildings.

Virgil earns masters
By seeming coincidence, the Jan. 21 edition
of the Reporter included profiles of two differ
ent people with Forsyth connections who were
also joined in another way. A recent edition of
The Reporter included a story about Forsyth's
Maj. Scott Virgil, husband of Ivey Mercer
Virgil, who's preparing to deploy to Iraq. It
also included a story about Dr. Audrey Haynes,
a Monroe Academy graduate who's gone on to
be a respected political science professor and is
graduate coordinator in the political science
department at UGA.
It turns out before deploying, Virgil finished
his masters degree in political science at UGA
in a record five semesters. Major Virgil's thesis
examined the allocation of presidential cam
paign resources. Members of Major Virgil's
committee included (who else?) Dr. Audrey
Haynes. The Department of Political Science
said it is proud of Major Virgil's accomplish
ments and his service to his country.
