Since 1898
Lauren Devereaux and
Blake White were named
Monroe County’s STAR
students last week.
Lauren, a senior at Mary
Persons, was the system-
wide winner, having scored
2100 on the SAT.
Lauren has taken the
test every year since sev
enth grade, saying she
liked the practice and kept
improving her score.
Lauren has attended
Monroe County schools
since pre-K and is very
active in clubs and sports.
She is the president of the
Beta Club and a student
leader in the First Priority
Club. She is also a member
of Key Club and Interact
Club. Lauren has played
soccer for four years and is
a member of the marching
and concert bands. She is
taking three AP classes
this year in preparation for
college. She hopes to
attend Covenant College in
Lookout Mountain, Ga and
plans to major in Biblical
studies. She hopes to
become a missionary.
“I like all subjects, but I
decided studying the Bible
would stick with me,” said
Lauren. As a Christian
Lauren says she feels
called to travel to other
countries and spread the
Gospel while doing what
she can to help others.
She has been on several
mission trips, including
Birmingham, Ala. and
Charleston, SC.
“I’ve roofed, painted and
worked on people’s lawns,”
said Lauren.
Lauren has always been
a good student but says
she’s not one of those stu
dents who can just make
straight As without work
ing at it.
“I can’t take the glory.
God gives me the ability,
but I have to study,” says
Lauren. “It doesn’t just
happen.”
