Clay is officer of year
Monroe County Sheriff John Cary Bittick honored Sgt.
Michael Clay as the 2008 Officer Of The Year award
recently Clay is the sergeant of the support services
division. In addition to being the sergeant, he is the
training officer and a DARE Officer. He also is the coor
dinator of the Jr. Deputy program of which he re-imple-
mented in late 2007.
In 2008 Sgt. Clay started an in-service training pro
gram for the sheriff’s office. He holds at least two train
ing sessions a month for law enforcement officers as well
as civilians. In 2008 he taught over 60 hours of in-serv
ice hours.
Clay is constantly looking at ways to help train officers
and civilian employees. He is now starting a mandate
(police academy) selection process and training classes
for new employees.
Capt. Keith Corley of the Support Services Division
says Clay is very dedicated and loyal to his jobs at the
sheriff’s office. “He is just an outstanding person. I enjoy
working with him everyday. He has only been a sergeant
in my division for about a year and the impact he’s made
is amazing.”
