DUI suspect: Came all the way from Georgia
A LaFayette man was
arrested Thursday, Feb. 5
after he ran off the road on
1-75 south, admitted to
smoking marijuana and
told police he thought he
was in Florida.
According to a Sheriffs
report, Deputy Beck was
traveling south on 1-75 at
10:16 p.m. when he saw a
Chevrolet truck swerving
in its lane. Beck also
noticed the driver, Thomas
Lee Kyle, was unable to
drive in a straight line.
When Beck tried to stop
the car, Kyle ran off the
road and into the emer
gency lane and finally
stopped at mile marker
189.
According to the report,
Kyle said he was having a
hard time keeping the car
on the road because he had
been driving for awhile
and had come from
Georgia. Kyle couldn't tell
Beck where he thought he
was. He then said he was
on his way to Florida and
thought he might be there.
Kyle's eyes were red and
his pupils didn't respond to
Beck's flashlight. Once
Kyle was at the back of
Beck's patrol car, he start
ed acting nervous and
wouldn't give Beck direct
answers. Kyle said he had
come from north Georgia
but then said he had been
in Illinois and had driven
straight through Georgia.
Beck searched Kyle and
the car, but didn't find any
thing. He then noticed that
Kyle had an inside pocket
on his jacket. According to
the report, Kyle had a half
burnt marijuana cigarette
in the pocket and admitted
to smoking marijuana ear
lier that day.
Kyle originally agreed to
a blood test, but on the
way to the Monroe County
Hospital he told Beck he
no longer wanted to take
one. He was taken to the
Monroe County Jail and
charged with DUI and pos
session of marijuana.

drive drunk
friend home on
revoked license
At 4:02 a.m. on Feb. 14
Officer Devane was travel

Street when he saw a
Honda Accord weaving in
and out of lanes. Devane
tried to stop the car but
the driver kept going and
finally stopped in the
Econo Lodge parking lot.
The driver got out of the
car and started walking
toward Devane. The front
seat passenger was moving
around in the car and tried
to duck down in the seat.
The driver said the passen
ger was drunk and he’d
picked her up because he
didn’t want her driving. He
said he knew his license
was revoked. The driver
was arrested and trans
ported to the Monroe
County Jail.
Hardee’s
employee
threatened
At 3 p.m. on Feb. 16 a
complainant said she had
been working the drive
thru at Hardee’s when a
customer threatened her.
The complainant said the
suspect had started
screaming at her when she
asked her to speak louder.
The customer then drove
around to the window and
threatened to assault the
complainant. The victim
knew the suspect and said
her manager and another
woman had witnessed the
incident.
The Monroe County
Sheriffs office reported the
following incidents Feb. 12-

Woman rips
nozzle off gas
pump, flees
At 7:25 p.m. on Feb. 12
Cpl. Brown was dispatched
to the Market place
Chevron in Culloden in ref

The suspect said her moth

had placed her nozzle into
the gas tank before going
inside to pay for it. The
suspect said she didn’t
know her mother had left
the nozzle in the tank and
had noticed that the gas
pump wasn’t working. The
suspect said she drove her
mother’s car to a parking
space near the store, not
realizing she had ripped
the nozzle off of the gas
pump until she got out and
saw it hanging from the
tank. The gas station
attendant said the suspect
had tried to lay the nozzle
on the ground and had
tried to leave. The atten

the hose was $250.
Drugs found in
traffic stop
At 3:03 p.m. on Feb. 13
Deputy Beck stopped a
Volkswagon Jetta on 1-75
north for window tint. The
driver seemed nervous and
his hands were shaking.
He told Beck he didn’t
have anything illegal in
the car, then tried to
change the subject. Beck
asked a second time if he
had anything illegal and
he said he didn’t. He gave
Beck permission to search
the car. Cpl. Duncan’s K9
alerted on the driver’s side
door. Beck asked what was
in the car. The suspect
looked down and said he
was trying to get home.
The suspect then started
walking toward the driver’s
side of the car and Beck
had to get in front of him
to stop him. Again, Beck
asked what was in the car.
The suspect said he was
trying to get home and see
his girlfriend. A metal con

marijuana in it was found
in the car. The driver was
arrested and transported
to the Monroe County Jail.

people had been trying to
rob him so he went to his

had no intentions of hurt
ing anyone. The subject
gave deputies an address
for the suspect. When
deputies King and Haskins
got to the house, the sus
pect came out from under

he had been attacked by
several men and had fired
his gun to scare them
