GAME PICKS OF THE WEEK
Reporter editor Will Davis, graphic designer Denzil Hansford and intern Hilary
Hogg are matching wits and football savvy with O’Reilly’s manager Cliff Johnson,
co-owner of Jonah’s Bonnie Barker, David Spereau, Brad Tingle, and Lucky Cafe
owner Sam Wu in the annual “Games of the Week” competition. These individuals
will pick high school, college and pro football games to see who will have the best
record at the end of the season. The winner will receive fame and fortune beyond
their wildest dreams. Just kidding. But they will get a plaque proclaiming them
the winner and giving them bragging rights for a full year. Good luck to all the
people participating in the Pigskin Picks and “The Games of the Week.”

he loves coaching this team because of
their determination and heart.
“They just kept fighting all year,” said
Walker. “There are no bones about it -
this has been one of my favorite teams
to coach. I am extremely proud of what
they accomplished.”
What the 2009 Bulldogs lacked in
experience and athleticism, they made
up for with hard work and a great atti
tude, Walker said.
And on Friday, the Bulldogs put on
one final show of teamwork, shutting
out the Jaguars of Maynard Jackson.
Senior quarterback Dustin Calder led
the offense with 167 yards rushing on
15 carries and one pass completion for
25 yards. Calder exploded for 65 yards
on the Bulldogs’ first possession of the
game, scorning his first of two MP
touchdowns. Corey Head also had a
great game. Head was the recipient of
Calder’s 25-yard pass, landing him in
the endzone for one of his two scores on
the night.
Meshari Walton scored the other MP
touchdown, a seven-yard run in the
third quarter. Dalton Rozier had four
good PATs and a 31-yard field goal.
“Dalton has been an outstanding
player all season,” said Walker. “I have
been very proud of him. He’s had sever
al field goals and punted well most of
the time. He will be hard to replace
next year.”

night was senior Ben Pierson. True to
his prediction, Pierson was cleared to
play early last week, less than three
weeks after suffering what many
thought to be a season-ending lung
injury in a car accident.
“I told you I’d be back,” Pierson said.
“I am very happy I got to play one more
time.”
Leading the defense was senior Tevin
Davis, with seven tackles and thee
assists.
The Bulldogs end
the 2009 season with
a 7-3 overall record.
Round one of the
AAA state playoffs
begin Friday night.
Jackson plays
Monroe (1AAA, 4th)
on Red Devil Hill.
Woodward hosts
Worth County
(1AAA, 3rd).
Woodland travels to
Cairo (1AAA, 2nd)
and Spalding plays
Peach County
(1AAA, 1st) in Fort
Valley.
The Bulldogs will
lose 15 good seniors
this year, but Walker
says he is optimistic
about the 2010 sea-
“We are losing a good group of sen
iors. They really stepped into their
roles as team leaders this year. I am
very proud of them,” said Walker.
But, Walker adds, the Bulldogs will
return a solid nucleus for the 2010 sea
son, with a dozen starters
coming back.
The GHSA is reclassifying
the regions this year.
Walker says he expects to
know what region Mary Persons will be
for the next two seasons some time in
the next few weeks. Walker says he
expects the reclassification will take
Mary Persons out of the Atlanta area
region.
