Around Monroe County
Lights, camera, action
For the first time in decades, audiences may soon be able to enjoy movies on the big screen at
the Rose Theater. That’s thanks in part to a $2,500 grant to the Rose and its Backlot Players re
ceived from the Downtown Development Authority for production and video equipment. The
Rose needs a total of $10,000 to begin showing movies again, said Backlot director 5tan Greene.
Shown above are, from left, DDA director Laurie Pippin, Ralph Ogletree, Lena Jones, Hugh Mer
cer, DDA chairman Art Rauscher, councilman Mike Dodd, Backlot Players director Stan Greene,
Rhett McMurray and Christopher Martin.
Surprise Patrol rides again
The Monroe County Chamber of Commerce’s Surprise Patrol surprised Clete Sanders, owner of

popped in on Sarah Eidson, owner of Little Angels Learning and Daycare Center in Smarr and
surprised her, the staff and lots of little angels as well. The Chamber’s Surprise Patrol makes
stops each month as a way to thank Chamber members.
