new study called “The
Quest for Authentic
Manhood.” Part of the
Men’s Fraternity series,
it includes a 45-minute
DVD and then discus
sion. The meetings had
been scheduled for the
American Legion Hall
but were moved to
Alderman Hall at the
new Welcome Center on
Lee Street (across from
Castleberry’s) due to

about the classes that
will be offered beginning
in January at the former

DAC dedicates grave marker to founder
On Oct. 25 Major
William Horton Chapter,
Daughters of the
American Colonists, dedi
cated a DAC grave mark
er in Forsyth City
Cemetery in memory of
Mrs. Katie Mae Arnold
Hardin, who founded the
chapter in January 1935.
Several descendents of
Mrs. Hardin attended the
ceremony.
Mrs. Hardin was born
in Lexington, Ga., on Oct.
23, 1888, and was the
daughter of Nathaniel
Dowdy Arnold, and Annie
Susan Callaway Arnold.
Educated in local schools,
she was also a graduate
of Lucy Cobb. Mrs.
Hardin married Hugh H.
Hardin of Forsyth on Feb.
24, 1916. They had three
children, Nathaniel
Arnold Hardin, Catherine
Jennings Hardin and
Hazel Madura Hardin.
In addition to organiz
ing the Major William
Horton Chapter of the
Daughters of the
American Colonists in
Macon, Mrs. Hardin was
heavily involved in her
church and local commu
nity. A grandmother of
12, she died on Oct. 23,
1977, and was buried in
Forsyth City Cemetery on
Oct. 25, 1977.

Plantation Quilters exhibit now open at J*meU
Jarrell Plantation Historic Site is
exhibiting quilts made by the
Plantation Quilters in their
"Roots, Roots, and Routes" Fall
quilt challenge. So far 22 quilts
have been placed in the Visitor
Center on exhibit. Admission to
the Visitor Center to see the quilts
is free, however a fee is required
for the half mile historical trail.
The quilts will remain on exhibit
at least through Dec. 19.
The Plantation Quilters meet on
the third Saturday of each month
at 9 a.m. at Jarrell Plantation.
Membership is open to quilters at
any level of expertise. For more

Jarrell Plantation is located
three miles off of Hwy. 18 just east
of the Ocmulgee River in Jones
County on Jarrell Plantation
Road.
Tag and tax office announces holiday hours
The Monroe County tag and tax office will have lim
ited hours during the months of November and
December due to Thanksgiving and Christmas. The
tag office will be open a half-day on Nov. 25. from
7:30 a.m. to 12 noon. The office will be closed Nov. 26
and 27. The office will be open a half-day on Dec. 23,
from 7:30 a.m. to 12 noon and will be closed Dec. 24
and 25. The office will also be open a half-day on Dec.
31, from 7:30 a.m. to 12 noon and will be closed on
Jan. 1.
