program for addicts
Are you or someone you know suf
fering from addiction? There are peo
ple who understand and care about
the emotional and physical pains that
are caused by addictions.
The Life Recovery program is for
individuals and families that are
affected by the destructive cycle of
addictive behavior. Addictions are too
powerful to fight on your own; meet
with others who can relate.
Individual and Family support
group meetings are held at the church
every Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
Meetings are confidential, private
parking and entrance into the meet
ings is available at the rear of the
church. Attendees must be 18 years of
age. Maynard Baptist Church is
located at 1195 Juliette Rd. Call 994-

The Nickel Group of Alcoholics
Anonymous has an open discussion
meeting each Wednesday at 8 p.m. at
Christ United Methodist Church.
Al-Anon, a support group for fami
lies and friends of alcoholics, also
meets at 8 p.m. each Wednesday at
Christ UMC. The church is located at
417 N. Frontage Road in Forsyth.
Everyone welcome. Both meetings are
private and attendees remain com
pletely anonymous.

Backlot to hold auditions
for ‘Dearly Beloved’
The Backlot Players will hold audi
tions for its next production “Dearly
Beloved” on Monday, Nov. 30 and
Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Rose
Theater. Show dates are Feb. 11, 12,
13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 2010. This is a com
edy. The cast calls for four males,
seven females (doubling).
Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, Jamie
Wooten. The Futrelle sisters, Frankie,
Honey Raye and Twink, are throwing
a wedding in the small town of Fayro,
Texas, for Frankie's daughter, Tina Jo,
and almost everything that could
happen, happens, from finding out the
reception is going to be potluck to the
bride and groom running away on the
day of the wedding. You'll laugh 'til
you cry.

The Forsyth Christmas tree will be
lit on Monday, Nov. 30 at 6 p.m.
downtown on Johnston Street on the
square. Entertainment to include
Mary Persons High School Band, New
Providence Baptist Church Choir, St.
Luke AME Church Men's Choir,
Robert Ogletree, Encore Dance
Studio, CC Performers and a visit
from Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus.
Christmas Tree will be lit by Ivey
Weldon and Christina Ligeikis.

Arts Alliance to offer
‘Videography for Beginners’
Monroe County Arts Alliance pres
ents "Videography for Beginners", a
"how-to" series of five one-hour class
es by member Walt Brenner, a local
adventure traveler and underwater
videographer. Brenner has been mak
ing films for over 50 years and has
produced around 30 documentaries.
The fee for the class is $100, which
covers all five classes. Limited to the
first 10 students to register.
Classes include, Dec. 2 - basic intro
to equip.; Jan. 7 - basics of shooting;
Jan. 14 - editing; Jan. 21 - finishing;
Jan. 28 - review/critique of short films
by students.
All classes begin at 7 p.m.

The Rose Theater presents
‘A Tribute to Motown’
The Rose Theater will celebrate 50
years of music with two hours of Mo
town hits performed by local artists.
Performances will be at 8 p.m. on Fri
day and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sun
day.
Tickets are $10 for seniors and stu
dents and $15 for adults.
The Rose Theater is located at 23 W.
Johnston St. in Forsyth.

Forsythia logo deadline extended
The 23rd annual Forsythia
Festival has extended its deadline
for 2010 logo submissions. This
logo contest is open to Monroe
County residents of all ages. The
winning logo should embody the
festival spirit and will be used on
festival T-shirts, pins, and adver
tisements.
“The Forsythia Festival is an
exciting time for our community,
and we look forward to it each
year. The annual logo is an inte
gral part of the festival’s image,
and we are looking forward to see
ing the creative ideas people
have,” says Karen Manus-
Pennings, director of Tourism at
the Forsyth-Monroe County
Chamber of Commerce.
All contest submissions should
be submitted either as the original
artwork or in digital format by
Monday, November 30, 2009, to
the Forsyth-Monroe County

that represents the Forsythia
Festival experience, is colorful,
and graphically appealing.
Contestants must use a visible,
original image (no clip art, please).
The image will be used on large
and small posters and may be sim
plified for T-shirts and pins.
The image should relate to the
forsythia flower, arts and crafts,
and/or the surroundings and
should reflect a family-oriented,
traditional-music event. It must
reproduce well in black and white
and be legible in small sizes.
Lettering must be identifiable and
easy to read.
All entries, images, and artwork
become exclusive property of the
Forsythia Festival and the
Forsyth-Monroe County Chamber
of Commerce.
Culloden native reaches pinnacle
of Air Force enlisted rank

Franklin visited the
Reporter office last
month as part of one of
his badge requirements.
Pierce had to tour the
office and find out the
ways the Reporter staff
gathers news.
Pierce is in the fifth
grade at T.G. Scott

Sneed, son of the late
Tommy Jordan and
Christine Sneed of
Culloden was selected
for promotion to Chief
Master Sergeant
(CMSGT) Nov. 5.
CMSGT is the ninth
and highest enlisted
rank in the Air Force.
Attaining this rank is
the pinnacle of an Air
Force enlisted member's
career. By Federal law,
only 1 percent of the Air
Force enlisted force may
hold the rank of Chief
Master Sergeant.
Senior Master Sergeant
Sneed currently serves
as the squadron super
intendent for the 844th
Communications
Squadron at the
Pentagon in Washington
DC, where his duties
include directing secure
data/voice communica
tions for the Secretary
of Defense, Chairman
and Vice Chairman
Joint Chief of Staff, and
Chief of Staff United
States Air Force while
traveling worldwide.
