Forsyth ushers in Christinas
season with tree lighting
Ivey Weldon and Christina Legeikis to flip the switch
Forsyth Better Hometown
will present the Forsyth
Community Christmas Tree
Lighting at 6 p.m. on
Monday, Nov. 30 on the
downtown square on
Johnson Street.
This year the tree will be
lit by two very special guests
- Ivey Weldon and Christina
Legeikis. Both young ladies
have recently overcome
severe head injuries and
their spirit and drive is an
inspiration in this holiday season.
Ivey was injured in a car accident earlier this year
during the March 1 snowstorm. And Christina has
just got out of the hospital after suffering a severe
head injury after she was struck by a car on her way
to school last month.

Entertainment will be pro
vided by the Mary Persons
High School band, New
Providence Baptist Church
choir, St. Luke AME Church
men's choir, Robert Ogletree,
Encore Dance Studio, and CC
Performers.
There will also be a visit
from Santa Claus and Mrs.
Claus!
Several downtown shops
and restaurants will be offer
ing a 10% discount from 5-8
p.m., including Flowers by Helen, Go
Communications, Jonah's on Johnston, Ladebco
Guitars and Music, The Palm, and Smart Shoppes on
the Square.

‘Holidays Past and Present?
on parade in Forsyth
The 20th annual Hometown
Holidays parade is Thursday, Dec.
3 at 7 p.m. This year’s theme is
“Holidays Past and Present” and
will include marching bands, carol
ers, pageant queens, cheerleaders,
dance troupes, floats lit with color
ful, sparkling lights, horses, Santa
and Mrs. Claus, and much
more. Sponsored each
year by the Forsyth-
Monroe County Chamber
of Commerce, the
Hometown Holidays
Parade is one of the most
anticipated events of the
year.
The parade begins at the
Monroe County Board of
Education and follows
Main Street and goes
aroud the square along
Jackson and Johnston
streets and continues
down Tiff College Drive,
ending up in the Ingles
parking lot.

The 11th annual
Bolingbroke Community
Christmas parade is at 3
p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5
along Rivoli Road in
downtown Bolingbroke.
Bring a lawn chair and
come early. Pre-parade
festivities begin at 2 p.m.
There will be a conces
sion stand with snacks
and drinks. The grand
finale will be Santa and
Mrs. Claus. Kids will also
be able to visit with
Santa after the parade.

Breakfast
with Santa at
Christ UMC
Christ United Methodist
Church is hosting break
fast with Santa Saturday,
Dec. 5 from 9:30 a.m.
until noon. The cost of
one child will be $10 and
each additional child in a
family is $5. The cost
includes a picture with
Santa and breakfast.
Call 994-1232 to schedule
the time to meet Santa.
Children can also shop in
Santa’s Secret Shoppe to
purchase gifts, many
starting as low as 50
cents.

All proceeds from the voluntary
entry fee will be donated to chil
dren’s charities. Last year, nearly
$1,000 was donated to Monroe
Reads.
