Fleckenstein: ‘Worked hard so mama could stay home’
"W" ^^lenlsawin
% J The Reporter
% / % J that it was
again time for
V V nominations
for Father of the Year, I knew I
had to nominate one of the
greatest men around. I have
always heard that anyone can
be a father, but it takes a spe
cial person to be a daddy With
that said, I nominate my dad
dy as Father of The Year.
My father John
Fleckenstein is one of the
best people you could ever
meet. He is a genuine, car
ing, God-fearing man who
loves his family beyond
words. For as long as I can
remember, my daddy
taught my brother and me
how to be good and
upstanding people. He
taught us that no matter
what we tried to do, we
could succeed if we gave it
our all and put God at the
head of our lives. No mat
ter what we did, he always
stood behind us. I am not
saying he is perfect, but he
is about as close to being
perfect as a person can be
(to me, of course).
When we were younger
he decided that he wanted
our mama to be a stay-at-
home mother. He knew the
sacrifices he would have to
make for this to be possi
ble, but he did it anyway.
He did not get to go on
these elaborate hunting
trips or go out and buy the
biggest and best of things,
but he gave his family the
best gift of all- which was
just that- a family.
He worked late days and
woke up early in the morn
ings to drive from the
house to work so we would
not have to leave our
home, family and friends.
He would be so tired when
he came in from work that
he could barely put one
foot in front of the other,
but he still managed to
play outside with us until
after dark and coach our
little league games.
He has always been
there for us through the
ups and downs of life,
whether it be the loss of a
little league game, the
death of a childhood pet,
graduating from high
school and college, or the
loss of a child. We always
knew we would hear those
reassuring words from
daddy. “Good job!” or
“Everything will be OK”.
He is not the richest or
most powerful man in soci
ety, but to us he far sur
passes them both. His
riches are his wife, chil
dren and grandchildren,
but most of all his riches
are in Heaven.
I can’t think of a better
way to honor my father
than to tell the whole com
munity just how great of a
man he is.
Thank you daddy for
being such a great man
and teaching us the rights
and wrongs of life. I hope
that I will impact my chil
dren’s lives the way that
you impacted ours.
Whether you win Father
of the Year or not, you will
always be my Father of
the Year.

Robert Jenkins: ‘A big heart that pumps love’
■^^"have the greatest most
I loving, smartest, and
I handsome dad in the
I world. I know a lot of
.^Lpeople say they have the
greatest dad in the world, but I
really mean it. My dad is very
special and has a big heart
that pumps love through it
every second of the day. Every
day that I need help with
homework during the school
days, my dad is the one to ask
help from.
Whenever me or my sis
ter and brother get sick,
he tries to cheer us up and
does all he can to make us
feel better and he also
prays with us that the
Lord will heel us. Another
thing I have noticed about
my dad too is that he
always has a smile on his
face. If there is ever a
storm, my dad will make
sure we are safe and he
comforts us. I am glad I
have a good Christian
father that takes me to
church and loves me and I
love him too. I am very
blessed to have a wonder
ful father that cares about
me and my family.

Phillip Gore: ‘He can do hair better than I can’
www.mahindrausa.com
I
'am writing you this
email after reading The
Reporter with my hus
band.
My name is Holly Gore
and I have a wonderful
husband and a super dad!
I work at a job where I
have to get up at 3:45 a.m.
to get ready for work and
have to be there by 5 a.m.
This has been going on for
about 4 years and we have
two children Jake who is 5
and Jackie is 8. He can
do hair better than I can
and he can leap to TG
Scott Elementary Sand
drop two kids off by 8 a.m.
in a single bound with 90
percent time feeding them
breakfast.
He works 40 plus hours a
week as a network engi
neer owning his own busi
ness. Not only this but we
are active members of
Forsyth United Methodist
Church where he found
time to be apart of
Kingdom Builders by help
ing others in our commu
nity. He is a wonderful
dad who takes time with
his children by coaching
Jackies’s softball team and
Jake’s T-ball team and also
their soccer teams simulta
neously.
Somehow he also finds
time to be a tremendous
asset around our home by
taking care of day-to-day
needs. He always keeps a
level head in a world full
of screwballs- he makes
mistakes but admits to
them and uses them as
lessons to our children.
He is blessing to me and
our children! Please con
sider him for father of the
year!

Father
continued from the front
to live. He thinks things
through before responding.
He doesn’t raise his voice,
nor does he run from chal
lenges.
He lives quietly, yet
determined. He appreci
ates the smallest things,
lives content and loves his
family. He rules our home
with love and with consid
eration of what is best for
us.
An honest man, never
taking or wanting any
thing that does not belong
to him. I have known him
to return incorrect change
at a drive-thru at the
inconvenience of getting in
line again. As a trooper,
we have met many people
he stopped who comment
ed they appreciated how he
treated them with respect.
He gives more than he
takes. This example he
has provided for our chil
dren. From their com
ments you can see that
example has directed their
lives and continues to
influence them today.

My father was always
calm, yet firm. I didn’t get
away with anything, yet
his discipline was done in
a loving way. He taught
me to work hard no matter
what. If I was getting paid
$2 an hour, work like I was
getting $100 an hour and
work at 100%. I learned
this from his example.
This lesson has benefited
me greatly in life, especial
ly as a wife and mother.
He taught me to have
self-respect and encour
aged me to stand on my
own and make decisions
for myself. He taught me I
would have to live with my
decisions so make good
ones. He allowed me to
make decisions even when
he did not always agree,
giving me room to fail, but
a safe place to start again.
I was able to learn from
my mistakes and therefore,
be better prepared for real
life. For that I am forever
grateful. I trust my father
completely.
I trust his wisdom and
abilities, believing he can
solve any problem. We
still laugh at how I called
him to fix my air condition
er while living in Texas.
The strange thing is, he
did it, never letting me
down. My father is a solid
man and I am so glad God
sent me to be raised by
him. With prayer, he guid
ed me and I know I can
still turn to him. My own
husband comments quite
often that my father is
such an example, and he
hopes he can be a father to
our children like my dad
was/is to me. That in itself
is a testimony to the great
father my dad really is.

F — Faithful. He came to
every ballgame from little
league through high
school.
A — Artist. He painted a
clear picture of what a
godly husband and father
should be.
T - Teacher - He taught
me how to pitch a baseball,
ride a bike, play the guitar.
H - Hard Worker.
Though retired, he contin
ues to work and taught me
the value of hard work.
E — Encourager. He
encourages me in every
thing I do, to always do my
best.
R - Rare. In today’s soci
ety, with divorce on a ram
page, I’m proud my dad is
still married to my mom. I
had the privilege of being
raised by both parents.
His steadfast love for his
family is rare.
