W &nt your kids
to become
more fit, more
skilled, and
more confi
dent? Sportz Quest, a chil
dren’s fitness and gymnastics
facility, can help you reach
these goals. This gym for kids
is located at 2954 Riverside
Drive in Macon, offering in
structional, rather than com
petitive programs so that stu
dents can focus on learning
without the distraction of op
ponents, game rules or strate
gies.
Sportz Quest offers activ
ities for toddlers through
teens. Their Early
Childhood Gymnastics and
Movement Education
Program encourages boys
and girls, eighteen months
of age through 1st grade,
to improve body aware
ness, increase strength
and flexibility, and refine
balance
and
coordi
nation.
A week
ly Cheer
Skills
class
teaches girls in lst-5th
grades to execute cheer
motions, jumps and tum
bling moves. Other school-
age programs include gym
nastics for girls and tum
bling for both boys and
girls. Each week’s lesson
plan focuses on improving
technique while increasing
fitness levels.
Students may also enjoy
participating in a variety
of Pay-Per-
Visit events
throughout
the year as
well. The
Gym Safari
Scavenger
Hunt
encourages
you and
your tod
dler to
explore
movement,
climbing
and playing
while
searching
for letters,
numbers or
animals
hidden
throughout the gym.
Happy Face Friday offers
parents a night out while
the kids enjoy a variety of
physically active games.
And, if your kids like to
bounce, check out
Inflatable Play Days,
where children run, jump
and play while under the
supervision of safety con
scious instructors. Have a
particular skill to perfect?
They offer cartwheel and
back handspring clinics.
And, private lessons are
available for gymnastics,
tumbling, and sports fit
ness. You can also book
your child’s private birth
day party, but time slots
fill up quickly, so be sure
to call ahead.
Sportz Quest was found
ed by Rachel Foster, MS,
ATC, CSCS. Her vision
was to create a child-cen
tered program based on
sound prin
ciples
regarding
child devel
opment,
motor
learning,
and biome
chanics. Each instructor
has a strong background
in fitness or gymnastics.
Each staff member partici
pates in a customized
instructor training pro
gram developed by
licensed athletic trainers
with Master’s level
degrees. Examples of staff
training topics include
technique, safety, class
management, and proper
conditioning.
“Lessons are available for
children with various abili
ty levels, including those
with special needs,” Foster
pointed out. What distin
guishes Sportz Quest from
other similar programs is
the amount of preparation
that goes into each week’s
lesson plan. “We also limit
class sizes so that each
child gets plenty of
instruction and repetition”.
Sportz Quest is currently
registering for fall, and
new students are welcome.
