School work-based learn

CHAMPS (Courteous
Honorable Accountable
Motivated Prepared). The
CHAMPlight is shining
on two outstanding work-
based learning students:
Candi Pritchett and
Storm Cason.
Candi Pritchett wanted
to explore a career but
realized that she didn’t
know what employers
expected. She decided
that she needed to take
action concerning her
future and enrolled in the
work-based learning pro
gram. Candi is presently
enjoying her second year
of employment at the
First United Methodist
Church Preschool and has
her own Pre-K class.
Her advice for others in
her situation: “Take
advantage of the work-
based learning class. It’s
a great opportunity to
learn about people and
the workplace.” She plans
to pursue a degree at
Macon State University
or Gordon College.
“Candi has been an
asset to our facility and
the children love her,”
said Cathy Stevick, direc
tor of the childcare pro
grams at FUMC-Caring
for Kids.
Storm Cason is
employed as an intern
with the City of Forsyth.
His plans are to become a
welder and attend college
after graduation. His
mentors have many rea
sons to commend him.
“Storm does an out
standing job and is learn
ing new skills every day,”
said Steve Butler, city of
Forsyth garage supervisor
and one of Storm’s men
tors.
Another mentor,
Michael O’Kelley, is
teaching Storm the basics
of stick welding. After he

“Storm is crucial to our
overall production,” said
O’Kelley.
These students are
working in their career
pathway and learning
valuable skills.
Susan H. Childs is the

Notice of Explanation for Wetlands and Floodplain Compliance
Publication Date: November 21,2012
Notice is hereby given of a determination that there is no practicable alternative to locating in or impacting a floodplain and
wetland by the following proposed project: 2012 Monroe County CDBG, water line extension along Pea Ridge and Taylor
Roads, north on Highway 87 and east along Old Dames Ferry Road. This project is being funded by local monies and
Community Development Block Grant funds.
1. Explanation: The water lines must cross the floodplain and wetlands in order to service the residents of the target area.
2. Significant facts: Monroe County considered the installation of onsite filtration systems. These systems are costly and
require substantial maintenance.
3. The project engineers will design the project to conform to all floodplain and wetland protection measures.
4. Monroe County is a participant in the National Flood Insurance Program.
5. The activity will be designed to retain natural drainage characteristics and be minimally invasive.
6. The proposed project will disturb the floodplain and wetlands only minimally but not adversely.
7. The project will be covered under a Nation Wide Permit from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.
Comments regarding the proposed project may be submitted to Monroe County Board of Commissioners, 38 West Main
Street, Forsyth, GA, 31029, no later than November 28, 2012.

Monroe County Commission
