Election fraud case delayed again
‘It's beyond belief. I'm frustrated.’ - Former mayorTye Howard
BY WILL DAVIS
The investigation into
possible voter fraud in
the 2011 city of Forsyth
election won't go before
the state Board of
Elections until February
at the earliest, according
to the state's chief elec
tions fraud investigator.
The Georgia secretary
of state's office investi
gated possible voting
fraud in Forsyth's Nov.
8, 2011 election after a
Reporter probe found
that about 120 absentee
ballot applications
appear to have identical
handwriting and 45 bal
lot envelopes returned
had the same specialty
stamp. The investigation
is reportedly complete or
near complete, but chief
state investigator Chris
Harvey said the Forsyth
case will not be on the
agenda of the Board of
Election's Nov. 27 meet
ing.
Then-Mayor Tye
Howard was winning
the vote count until
absentee voters broke 4-
to-1 in favor of chal
lenger John T. Howard.
Informed of the delay by
the Reporter last week,
Tye Howard said it was
frustrating.
"It's beyond belief,"
said Tye Howard. "I'm
frustrated. There's
always bureaucracy
involved but dadgum.
They were trying to get
it done in August, then
in September, then said
no, not before election."
John Howard was los
ing 330-270 after early
votes and election-day
ballots were counted,
but paper absentee bal
lots went 287-68 for
John Howard, giving
him a 549-398 winning
margin.
Tye Howard originally
filed a lawsuit challeng
ing the election but with
drew after the state
announced its own probe.
