Sun. sales on, county hikes fees
Monroe County commissioners last
week raised the fees for alcohol licenses
just two days after Monroe County voted
to allow the sale of alcohol on Sundays.
The county increased its beer and wine
pouring license from its current rate of
$400 to $500, its package license from
$200 to $300 and its distilled spirits
pouring license from $1,250 to $1,500.
The vote was 3-1-1 to raise the fees.
Commissioner Larry Evans voted
against the increase.
Evans said, "It may not sound sub
stantial, but right now it could be to
some small business owners."
Alcohol licenses must be renewed
annually by Monroe County businesses.
Commissioner Patsy Miller abstained
from voting.
County administrator Anita Cauthen
said Monday that county businesses
began selling alcohol on Sunday on Nov.
11, the first Sunday after the Nov. 6
election.
