Department Nov. 15-Nov.
24.
Headphones, GPS
among items
stolen from truck
At about 5:10 a.m. on
Nov. 15, Sgt. Randy
Grindstaff met with a
Smith Road man who said
his company truck had
been broken into between
the hours of 9 p.m. the
previous night and 5 a.m.
that morning. The resi
dent's unlocked truck was
parked in the driveway
beside the home. The
truck is a 2010 white GMC
Sierra owned by U.S.
Sprinkler Inc. of
Stockbridge. The stolen
items included: a black
Garmin GPS, a yellow 18-
volt Dewalt cordless drill,
a set of black JVC Sports
headphones, a black
chrome Husky 140-piece
socket set and a gray
Jansport book bag. The
items were valued at
about $635. It was the sec
ond reported auto break-in
in the area in 24 hours. At
about 5:44 p.m. on Nov. 14,
Cpl. Willie Brown met
with a Floyd Road man
who said he was leaving
for work at about 4:30 a.m.
on Nov. 14 when he
noticed someone had
entered his pickup truck
and taken his GPS system,
a carton of cigarettes and
three lighters. The resi
dent said he was unable to
obtain a serial number for
his GPS system. The
stolen items were valued
at about $190.
Deputy catches
driver stuffing
meth in underwear
A 24-year-old white
Forsyth man and a 35-
year-old white Jackson
man were each arrested
and charged with posses
sion of methamphetamine
after a traffic stop on
Johnstonville Road on Nov.
20. At about 4:27 p.m.,
Dep. Chad Beck, Sgt.
Michael Hull and Dep.
John Thompson were con
ducting a license check at
the top of the southbound
exit ramp on Johnstonville
Road when a black
Mitsubishi Eclipse
approached their location
Beck noticed the male
driver slowed down when
he saw him, and the driver
and the male passenger
began to talk with one
another. Beck then saw
the passenger stick some
thing down the front of his
pants. Beck noticed the
passenger was looking for
ward and would not look
at him. Beck saw the pas
senger's shirt shaking, and
he was breathing heavily.
Beck asked the driver
what the passenger had
put in his pants. The driv
er said he did not know
what Beck was talking
about. The driver denied
having anything illegal in
the car and gave Beck con
sent to search it. Beck
then told the passenger he
saw him put something
down his pants, but the
passenger also denied it.
Hull determined the pas
senger was on probation
for possession of metham
phetamine. When Hull
searched the passenger,
the passenger removed a
bag of suspected metham
phetamine from his under
wear. Hull asked the driv
er how he knew the pas
senger. The driver said the
passenger is his cousin.
The driver said he didn't
know anything about the
passenger's meth, but
Beck said if he could see
the passenger put the
meth in his pants from
outside the car, he knew
the driver saw it too. Beck
later found out the passen
ger had already been ban
ished from Monroe County
as part of his previous
incident.
Driver arrested
for DUI, speeding
on 1-75 North
A 29-year-old white
Atlanta man was arrested
and charged with DUI,
failure to maintain lane,
speeding and an open con
tainer violation after a
traffic stop on 1-75 North
on Nov. 19. At about 5:25
p.m., Lt. Brad Freeman
saw a silver Honda Civic
traveling 90 miles per
hour and swerving on 1-75
North. Once Freeman
tried to stop the car, it got
off the interstate at Exit
186 and ran up onto the
curb of the exit ramp, hit
ting it and bouncing back
onto the ramp. Freeman
met with the male driver
and detected a strong odor
of alcohol coming from the
car. The driver had a
blank stare, and Freeman
saw a Bud Light Lime-a-
Rita can on the passenger
seat. He also saw another
can on the front passenger
floorboard. The driver
denied he had been drink
ing and agreed to several
field sobriety tests. The
driver failed to administer
an accurate field breath
test reading. He acted as if
he was blowing, but he did
not. The driver then
changed his story and
admitted drinking two
beers. Freeman asked him
if the empty containers
were in the car, but the
driver said he had already
thrown them out the win
dow. Freeman then asked
the driver if he had any
weapons on him, and the
driver responded that he
had a gun in the car.
Freeman said he had not
asked what was in the car,
and the driver became con
fused. He then said he did
n't have any weapons on
his person, but Freeman
later found the man had a
very large knife. Dep.
Kevin Powell arrived at
the scene to assist. The
driver then failed several
more field sobriety tests,
including tripping on a
curb during the walk-and-
turn exam. Once at the
Monroe County Jail, the
driver tested positive for
more than two times the
legal limit for alcohol on a
state breath test.
Forsyth woman
charged with DUI
after Hwy. 42 wreck
A 20-year-old white
Forsyth woman was
arrested and charged with
DUI and driving on a sus
pended license after a one-
car wreck on Hwy. 42
North on Nov. 16. At about
2:24 a.m., Sgt. Randy
Grindstaff went to a one-
car wreck on Hwy. 42
North near Weldon Road.
Grindstaff found a badly
wrecked Mercury Cougar
off the road with front end
damage. Both the front
and passenger side airbags
had deployed. The driver
had left the scene before
Grindstaff arrived, but the
car was still warm, so he
knew the crash had
occurred shortly before his
arrival. Grindstaff deter
mined the car had left the
road and struck a fire
hydrant and a culvert
before coming to rest.
Grindstaff then deter
mined the identity of the
female driver. Grindstaff
went to the Hwy. 42 home
and found the driver sit
ting on the back porch.
The driver said she was
not hurt but was shaken
up. The driver said she
lost control of her car
while swerving to miss a
deer. Grindstaff found out
the driver's license was
suspended, and he detect
ed a very strong odor of
alcohol on the driver. The
driver was unsteady on
her feet and slurred her
speech. The driver said
she last consumed alcohol
about an hour prior at
Rivalry's bar in Macon.
Once at the Monroe
County Jail, the driver
tested above the legal limit
for alcohol on a state
breath test.
Bolingridge Drive
resident reports
damaged mailbox
A Bolingridge Drive
homeowner reported that
his mailbox had been dam
aged. At about 9:46 a.m.
on Nov. 21, Dep. Charles
Miller met with the male
homeowner who said
about two weeks prior
someone had damaged his
mailbox with a blunt
object. The homeowner
said he believed that kids
had done it, so he didn't
report it. However, earlier
that day the homeowner
said he was driving down
Old Macon Road when he
noticed his mailbox was
laying on the side of the
road. He said someone had
dug the mailbox post from
the ground and dumped it
alongside the road. He
said he still believes that
kids are responsible. The
homeowner said he
planned to set up trail
cameras in his driveway to
catch the suspects. He said
he intended to prosecute if
he catches anyone on tape.
Rottweiler kills
cat, three chickens
and baby rabbits
A Rocky Creek Road
woman reported a roving
dog had killed multiple
animals. At about 11:59
a.m. on Nov. 21, Dep.
Lawson Bittick met with a
woman who was physically
holding down an adult
male Rottweiler. The
woman said the dog had
just killed two adult rab
bits, eight baby rabbits,
three chickens and one
adult cat. Animal control
came and took both the
Rottweiler and a small
black and white terrier
that was with him. The
Rottweiler did not have
any identifying tags on it.
Woman reports
finding stranger
in living room
A Sutton Road woman
reported a burglary
attempt at her home. At
about 2:04 p.m. on Nov. 24,
dispatchers informed Dep.
Kevin Powell and Dep. D.
Alhstrom that the female
homeowner had seen a
tall, dark-skinned black
male run out of her home
and into the woods. The
suspect was wearing a
black ski mask, a black
sweatshirt, blue jeans and
gloves. The deputies
immediately searched
behind the home. Dep.
John Thompson arrived
and met with the home-
owner who said she fin
ished taking a shower and
walked into the living
room when she saw a man
standing near her front
door. The homeowner said
she hollered at the man,
and he ran out the front
door and around the back
of her home and into the
woods. The homeowner
said she did not recognize
the man because he was
fully masked and clothed.
The deputies did not find
the man during their
search.
Several thousand
dollars reportedly
stolen from woman
A Forsyth woman report
ed several thousand dol
lars were missing from her
mother's checking account.
At about 5:07 p.m. on Nov.
26, Cpl. Richard
Coughenour met with a
Forsyth woman who said
she determined someone
had opened an account
with Regents Bank and
was tunneling money from
her mother's account. The
woman, who said she has
control over her mother's
account, said she contacted
BB&T and Regents Bank
about the problem.
Driver admits to
smoking weed
before driving
A 31-year-old white
Macon man was arrested
and charged with DUI fol
lowing a traffic stop on
Pate Road on Nov. 21. At
about 7:51 p.m., Sgt.
Michael Hull was travel
ing east on Pate Road
when he saw a black Jeep
Cherokee traveling west
on Pate Road with its
bright lights turned on.
Hull stopped the vehicle
and noticed the male dri
ver's eyes were extremely
bloodshot and glassy, and
his pupils were pinpoint.
Hull asked the driver if he
had been drinking, and
the driver said no. He then
asked him about drugs,
and the driver denied
using drugs as well. The
driver said his eyes had
been bloodshot since he
woke up that morning.
The front seat passenger,
the driver's wife, said she
didn't know why her hus
band's eyes were like that
either. Hull asked her how
much marijuana her hus
band had smoked, and she
said she didn't know. The
driver agreed to take sev
eral field sobriety tests,
which he failed. The driver
then finally admitted to
smoking marijuana earlier
in the evening. The dri
ver's wife was allowed to
drive the vehicle away
from the scene.
