Spotlight on
K.B.Sutton Elementary School
The Reporter highlights news from one county school each week. E-mail school news to
news@mymcr.net. Coming Up Next Week: T.G. Scott Elementary.
Third graders take off on the Sutton Silo Sprint on Dec. 7. The iK (about one-half mile) race was a kick-off for the Wellness
Initiative that will continue through January and will be expanded to all of Monroe County’s schools.
They are Sutton’s
fastest sprinters (and
they have medals!)

of Christmas
Carlie Allen and David Hardigree were two of the first KBS
students to donate items to our Canned Food Drive and to
Kids Yule Love. Their donations will bring smiles to Monroe
County families in need this year. Photos by Diana Haire.

many hours drawing and
painting the scenes to
make this float so special.

Monroe County Middle
School celebrated
American Education Week
Nov. 12-16. Students,
staff, and faculty took
time to appreciate great
educators and education.
On Monday, teachers at
the Banks Stephens cam
pus were treated to coffee
and doughnuts, and the
William Hubbard campus
did the same on Tuesday.
Following this, teachers
at Banks Stephens were
treated to breakfast from
the administration, and
the William Hubbard
campus enjoyed breakfast
from the administration
on Monday.
During the middle of the
week teachers were treat
ed to college dress down
day and duty free lunch.
On Friday, to wrap up the
week, teachers were treat
ed to lunch provided by
TAPS, the parent teacher
association at Monroe
County Middle School.
Students throughout the
week had great rewards
as well. They were as fol
lows: un-tuck shirt day,
hat day, and sit with a
friend at lunch. Overall,
this was a great week of
celebrating American
Education Week from
teachers to the students.
Teachers appreciated the
attention and thoughtful
ness of the administrators
and TAPS.
K.B. Sutton students salute veterans
BY DIANA HAIRE
Our Veterans Day Program was
held on Nov. 8 to commemorate
those who have served and are cur
rently serving in the military. We
had over 20 men and women who
were recognized. Music teacher,
Sandy Watson, director of the pro
gram, led kindergarten and first
grade students dressed in patriotic
colors for an electrifying perform
ance. The kindergarten students
wore star designed hats and made
special cards to give to the veterans.
The first grade students danced and
sang for the veterans. Special
guests from the National Society of
the Daughters of the American
Revolution were there along with Dr.
Priscilla Doster. The organization
donated American flags (made in
America) for the children to use for
the performance. The organization
provided American flags to every
classroom when KB Sutton opened
in 2009.
