Toys for needy kids
There are several groups of elves who are working
hard to make sure no Monroe County children are
without toys on Christmas day. The elves welcome
everyone who would like to help them by contributing
toys, money, or time.
Monroe County Gifts of Love is sponsored by the
Vietnam Veterans of Monroe County. John Turner said
they are providing for 36 children ages 12 and under.
Gifts of Love will accept gently used toys in good con
dition. Drop them off at the City of Forsyth Fire
Station on Kimball Street by Wednesday, Dec. 12; the
Fire Station is always open.
Gifts of Love has an account for monetary donations
at Farmers Bank. They especially need money to buy
batteries for toys. They will distribute the toys on
Saturday, Dec. 15. Volunteers who would like to help
packing toys should come to the Fire Station at 9 a.m.
on Dec. 15.
Money was collected for Toys for Tots in Monroe
County at the Walmart on Friday, Saturday, and
Sunday after Thanksgiving. It is sponsored by the
U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and is organized locally
by Marvin Jackson. He said the group was able to col
lect $2,050 because of the generosity of Monroe
County donors. The money will be used to purchase
new toys from Walmart. Walmart designates a regis
ter for the purchases and gives Toys for Tots a 10 per
cent discount on them.
The senior class of Mary Persons High School has
taken on the project of helping Kids Yule Love make
sure there are toys for all the children in Monroe
County. This year Mary Persons students are taking
the emphasis off of competition between classes in the
project but still working hard to fulfill the mission.
Pat Busby is the seniorclass sponsor and the person to
contact at Mary Persons. Checks should be made
payable to MPHS Kids Yule Love. The funds raised
will be announced at a school assembly on Friday,
Dec. 14. Then students will purchase toys with the
money raised. Donations of new toys will be accepted
after Dec. 14.
