Teacher Feature:
Mrs. Pippin
BY CELESTE CHAPMAN,
SAVANNAH ZAWACKI
This week Monroe County Middle School Banks
Stephens Campus is putting Mrs. Jennifer Pippin in
the spotlight and honoring her with a teacher fea
ture.
Mrs. Pippin has been teaching for 16 years and
almost all of those years have been with eighth
grade. She has been teaching in Monroe County for
eight years, and spent the other eight in Bibb
County
Mrs. Pippin is a great science teacher who strives
for student greatness. She does a lot of relatable
assignments that relate
to real world activities.
She has high expecta
tions for her students
and loves teaching
eighth grade.
Mrs. Pippin wants
her students to be good
humans as well as good
students. She wants
her students to be
organized, responsible,
and respectful as well
as perseverant and
able to overcome chal
lenges. Mrs. Pippin
loves that the schools
are now combined; that
way she can meet more
students than she
would have with just
one campus (i.e. William Hubbard).
She also enjoys Monroe county schools because of
the parent support, such as e-mails, phone calls,
and regular parent teacher meetings. She enjoys it
because of the community support, such as the
parades. Mrs. Pippin is truly an asset to the stu
dents of Monroe County!

January writing
test is coming
BYALBEYON FIELDS
It’s that time when the eighth graders at Monroe
County Middle School Banks Stephens Campus take a
very important test to see if they’re ready for the
ninth grade. It’s called the MGWT (Middle Grade
Writing Test).
They have been prepared for months now by the lan
guage teachers. Also, the eighth graders have prac
ticed on numerous occasions. The language arts teach
ers have taught us how to stay on topic, shown us how
to write a paragraph, and to keep calm and think.
Plus, we had different planning ways like the Box
Strategy, Rocket Ship, and the most common, the web.
So, I would like to wish all of my fellow students good
luck on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Be sure to remember all
your teacher has taught you!

Middle Schoolers show their talent
Left to right, Rashad Hugley, Hannah Blessett and Matthew Miller hosted
the Monroe County Middle School talent show.
BY ALEAH DAVIS
Do you have a spe
cial talent? Well,
many of the people at
my school do; so they
decided to participate
in the Monroe County
Middle School talent
show. There were tal
ents such as singing,
comedy, dancing, etc.
A lot of people
entered, money was
raised, and awards
were distributed to
some students in this
marvelous event.
In the talent show,
the people who
entered were: Aiyana
Smith, Samantha Walton,
Zaakiyah McCall,
Lindsay Martin, Mikayla
Blalock, Chris Tamlin,
Calvin Brown, Megan
Kelly, Mary Barnes,
Anastasia Miller, Luke
Dockery, Natalie Pippin,
Emmy Tane, Abbie Davis,
and Zachery and Zoe
Potts.
There were also two
special guests by the
name of Madison
Hammersley and Taylor
Jordan. The celebrity
guest was Mr. Ridley, and
the hosts were: Hannah
Blessett, Rashad Hugley
and Matthew Miller.
The tickets to the talent
show were five dollars.
The money that was
raised goes to the choral
program at Monroe
County Middle School.
This money helps the cho
rus teacher, Mrs. Walters,
buy music. It also goes
toward our events.
We raised a lot of
money but I can’t recall
the exact amount. Every
performance was very
good. It is too bad only a
few awards were given
out.
Samantha Walton won
first place.
Luke Dockery
won second
place, and
Mikayla
Blalock won
third place. If
it was my deci
sion everyone
who participat
ed would have
won an award.
I want to say
congratula
tions to the
people who
won an award.
I also want to
say good job to
the students who partici
pated. The talent show
was amazing. It took
place at the auditorium.
Thank you to all the
people who came out and
supported the Monroe
County Middle School
students in the talent
show. Hopefully next year
more people will be able
to come to our talent
show!
BSMS hosts Social Studies Night
BY BROOKLYN FEWELL
Just like Math Night, this special
event allowed parents to see what
students at Monroe County Middle
School learn and accomplish during
their social studies class. Social
Studies Night was held on Nov. 19,
and many families showed up to
participate in this event.
It started at 6 p.m. and everyone
met in the cafeteria. We then split
up and went to a station. There
were seven stations to choose from.
Unfortunately, we were only able
to choose two stations. The stations
showed the various computer pro
grams and what the students have
learned this year. Not to mention, a
variety of dishes were served
throughout the night that made
your taste buds dance!
These mouth-watering samples of
food were from different cultures
around the world. Don’t you think
that is neat? We ended the night
with our last station and a very
tasty treat-cupcakes! This was a
truly fantastic evening.

SAVE A PET
Tony is young adult Plott Hound. He
is playful and ever vigilant for the
perfect tug-of-war game! Tony
would probably not do well with
cats, as his second favorite game is
treeing squirrels. He loves to play
with other dogs and would make a
great addition to your family.
