BY RICHARD DUMAS

A Forsyth woman was
sentenced to seven years
in prison on Thursday
morning after she pled
guilty to causing the
wreck that killed 89-year-
old Doris Patricia "Patsy"
McKinney of Forsyth.
Carol Elaine Croy, 44,
pled guilty to first degree
vehicular homicide at the
Monroe County Justice
Center. Croy was origi
nally indicted on six
counts on Aug. 11, includ
ing three counts of vehic
ular homicide and was to
appear in court for an
arraignment hearing on
Thursday morning. Croy,
who was in tears
throughout Thursday's
17-minute plea hearing,
instead decided to waive
a trial and instead pled
guilty to one of the three
counts of vehicular homi
cide. She also received
eight years of probation
after she is released from
prison.
McKinney's daughter,
Patricia Showman, of
McDonough, was the only
family member of
McKinney's present at
Tuesday's hearing.

A smashing success
Monroe County families are reporting great fun at the opening of Hamlin Hills Farm's pumpkin
patch this past weekend, and more is expected in the final days of the inaugural year this Satur
day and Sunday. Above, Jillian Gastley, daughter of Jonathan and Dara Gastley, gets acquainted
with one of the antique farm implements on display at the patch. Organizers said they had a
great turn out with a full parking lot and continuous hay rides. The BBQ was reportedly outstand
ing. Organizers said they had interstate visitors from as far away as Illinois but also from Alaba
ma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Florida. The winners of the 1st Week Pumpkin Food Contest
were as follows: 1st Place Olivia Scoggins, 2nd Place Brandi Rozier, 3rd Place Debbie Joyner
and 4th Place Diana Prater. Families not only enjoyed picking of the pumpkins but also the pet
ting zoo, inflatable slides and bounce house, old farm equipment, and the blue grass. Hamlin
Hills Farm is located on Hwy. 18 just off I-75 across the bridge from the Shoney's. For more in
formation go to www.hamlinhillsfarm.com. (Photo courtesy Hamlin Hill Farms/Dara Gastley)

A 70-year-old Forsyth
man has been arrested
after female vic
tims accused
him of exposing
himself and
groping them
around town.
Addis Theo
Baird, 70, of Lee
King Road in
Monroe County,
is being charged
with misdemeanor sexu
al battery for a Feb. 2
incident in which he
touched the buttocks of
a local grocery
store female
employee.
Forsyth Police
and the Monroe
County sheriffs
office are inves
tigating the
incident. Baird
was then
charged with
public indecency, also a
misdemeanor, after
being accused of expos
ing himself to a female
employee in another
Forsyth grocery store on
Feb. 25.
Law enforcement took
interest in Baird after
reports came forward
that he was verbally
harassing women who
were exercising. A law
enforcement souce said
they could've done some
thing about it earlier if
women had reported it
to authorities instead of
merely posting it on
Facebook. The source
said if authorities can
prove there were three
incidents of misde
meanor sexual battery
the charges can become
a felony, meaning more
punishment for Baird if
convicted.
Anyone with informa
tion about these inci
dents or others should
contact Forsyth Police at
994-6022 or the Monroe
County Sheriffs Office
Investigation Division at
478-994-7043.
Baird's bond has been
set at $5,000 cash or
property. At the time of
this release he is still
incarcerated at the
Monroe County Sheriffs
Office Jail.
