God prepares you for whatever comes
Shirley
BY REV. SHIRLEY
WATKINS
I n this day we find
many Christians,
which means Christ-
like, failing in
areas of their
life they probably
thought they would
never fail in. By
this I mean we are
met with different
trials and tests
every day Some
times we fail in
them because we
never prepared our
selves for them.
In II Chronicles
20:32-33 the Bible talks
about the people doing
what was right in the
sight of the Lord. But
one thing was wrong.
They had not taken
away the high places
yet, for the people had
not prepared their
hearts unto the God of
their fathers. The high
places represented the
idols and other gods that
had been served in the
past.
As I read this it
reminded me that some
times we leave the high
places that are not right
in the sight of God and
when it comes time to
deal with it we fail
because we have not
prepared ourselves for
that place.
In saying that, I mean
we need to get our prior
ities in order when we
first become a Christian.
Every day after that as
we grow we need to
make sure our heart is
still prepared or ready
for whatever may come
our way. Jesus spoke to
the people in Matthew
24:44 "To be ye also
ready: for in
such an hour
as you think
not the Son
of man will
come."
So we need
to stay ready
at all times
for what
comes our
Watkins wa Y and the
only way to do
that is to keep
our priorities straight in
God. Decide how you
would handle a situation
before you get to that
situation. Talk to God
about grace to be able to
say the right things
when things may be
going the wrong way.
Prepare yourself to han
dle peer pressure before
you face it. People may
think peer pressure is
only for teenagers, but
adults fight it also. We
need to think of scenar
ios that we might get
caught in and pray to
handle these things in
God’s way before we
ever get to the situa
tion. In this way we
are being ready and
staying ready for any
thing that comes our
way.
Sometimes simple
things that confront us
cause us to act in
ungodly ways because
we have not prayed
and we are not ready
to face the confronta
tion. We lose our tem
pers, we say things that
should not be said. We
act out in ways that are
definitely not Christ-
like.
Our first prayers in
the morning should be,
“Lord, help me to handle
anything that comes my
way today the way you
would handle it.” We are
going to be tried and
tested. Jesus said we
would be. But it’s how
we come through the
trial or test that mat
ters. Can we come
through it with our
integrity still intact?
After Job had been
through the horrible
nightmare that hit his
household, he was able
to hold fast to his
integrity. (Job 2:3) Job
1:22 says, "In all of this
Job sinned not, nor
charged God foolishly."
What about us? When
another employee takes
credit for something we
did, can we keep our
integrity? When we are
wrongfully accused, can
we stand fast and hold
on to God? When things
we never dreamed about
come our way, do we
stay ready to meet them
head-on or are the high
places, the places that
should have been torn
down, still standing so
strong that we miss God
and fail in our stance for
Him?
Before you meet the
problem know in your
heart the answer. Be
determined to do what is
right no matter what.
When the Lord took us
in He didn’t say I will be
your God until some
thing better comes
along. He said I will be
your God forever, I will
go with you all the way.
I will stay with you all
the time. So all we have
to do is send up that
prayer for help in time
of need. Stay prepared
by keeping what is right
and holy first on our
everyday lists.
May God richly bless
you to get through every
