GOP hosts Family Day Sat.
All Monroe County families are invited
to a Family Fun Day from 11 a.m.-3
p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Monroe
County Rec Department. There will be
free food, games and bounce houses for
kids courtesy of the Monroe County
Republican Party. Hugh Taylor, chair
man of the GOP said the event is
designed to encourage local parents to
vote in the Nov. 4 election. There may
even be a few politicians around shaking
hands and encouraging voters. Early
voting started on Monday and will con
tinue until Friday before the Nov. 4 elec
tion. The weather forecast for Saturday
indicates perfect weather for the event.
Taylor said the party's ultimate goal is
to get 10,000 Monroe County
Republicans to vote in the election on
Nov. 4 as polls show both the races for
governor and U.S. senate are very close.

Nunn
BY WILL DAVIS

Michelle Nunn brought
her campaign for the
U.S. senate to Forsyth
on Friday evening tout
ing her ability to work
across party lines.
A Democrat, Nunn
spent 90 minutes with
about 40 supporters at a
fundraiser hosted by for
mer Monroe County
commission chairman
James Vaughn at his
Vaughn Road home.
Friday's fundraiser
capped a busy day for
Nunn who did service
project events at schools
in Macon and Columbus,
and also made news ear
lier in the day by con
ceding that she did in
fact vote for Barack
Obama in the 2008 and
2012. She made more
news on Friday by join
ing her opponent David
Perdue in calling for a
travel ban from Ebola-
stricken countries.
Speaking from
Vaughn's patio overlook
ing the pool on a sun-
splashed evening, Nunn
told the crowd that she
is neck and neck with
Perdue in the polls
because people are hun
gry for change, for
"something different".
Nunn said she began
her charity career 26
years ago when she and
some friends began
passing beer mugs
around at Manuel's
Tavern in DeKalb
County to take up
money to deliver meals
and tutor children of the
needy. That led to the
creation of a charity
organization she led
that spread to other
cities and then merged
with the Points of Light
Foundation, the volun
teer organization started
by former President
George H.W. Bush.
"We believed we could
do more together," said
Nunn. Nunn said she
could take that same
bipartisan spirit to
Washington. She noted
that former defense sec
retary Bob Gates has
said the biggest threat
America’s top-selling female comedian
Chonda Pierce will bring an evening of
laughter, music and ministry to Macon,
on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. at The
Grand Opera House.
Presented by Muse Concerts and spon
sored by Feed the Children, Learning to
Laugh Again will feature Chonda’s
unique ability to encourage and uplift
audiences as they walk
through life’s difficulties. Open
about her faith and personal
experiences, Chonda’s gift of
humor has been helping audi
ences around the globe for
decades.
In 2013, Chonda was certified
by the Recording Industry
Association of America (RIAA)
for her eight gold and three
platinum long-form DVDs,
making her the best-selling
comedienne of all time. She
was featured in TIME, Billboard and on
Better TV. The release of her “Did I Say
That Out Loud?” DVD in 2010 ushered
in a widening range of high profile,
mainstream media stops including her
guest appearance on ABC’s ever popular,
“The View”.
Despite her ever increasing slate of
sold-out concert schedules and growing
popularity, local audiences will be
delighted to find that Chonda Pierce is
definitely one performer who has never
lost her “down home” approach to mak
ing people laugh, nor the importance of
ministry in the process of making life
funny.
“I think I slipped in the back door,”
says Chonda of her entrance into the
world of comedy. “I was a college student
when I auditioned and was cast in a
music and dance show called ‘Country
Music USA’ which was a seasonal sum
mer attraction at Nashville’s Opryland
amusement park. The trouble was, I
was a terrible dancer; every
one knows Southern preach
ers’ kids can’t dance! My boss
at Opryland finally told me I
had better come up with
another talent. So, in order to
keep my job, I memorized
three pages of Minnie Pearl
jokes and impersonated
Minnie for park guests over
the next six seasons. I fell in
love with making people
laugh.”
Tickets to Learning to
Laugh Again with Chonda Pierce and
Special Guest Jason Crabb are $27
General Admission, $34 Gold Circle, $25
for groups of 10 or more, and $58 for
VIP. VIP purchases must be picked up
at Will Call between 5:30 and 5:50 p.m.
and include early entry into the concert,
premium seating, a tour lanyard, auto
graphed product and access to an exclu
sive Q&A session.
Tickets can be purchased by phone at
(478) 301-5470, online at chonda.org or
museconcerts.com. Tickets purchased
online include a per-ticket convenience
fee.

"We have enough pros

that Perdue couldn't cite

favorite Nunn TV ad.
Attorney Benson Ham of
Forsyth said he likes the

outsourcing jobs over

Asked if she would
vote for Romney if she
could cast her 2012 bal

but was noncommittal:
"I'm going to look for
