The following arrests were
reported by the Monroe County
Sheriff’s Department Oct. 15-22.
An arrest means someone has

the law considers them innocent
until proven guilty.
Woman: Credit card
had mystery charges
At about 11:40 a.m. on Oct.
15, Dep. Kianda Pritchett
went to a Horseshoe Lane
home about identity theft.
The female resident said she
received several letters and
phone calls from the Internal
Revenue Service (IRS) in July
stating someone had used her
social security number and filed
taxes for 2013. The resident
told Pritchett she had not filed
taxes in over 20 years due to
her income level. The resident
said since July she had received
several more collection letters
and bank statements show
ing unauthorized purchases
from shopclub.com for $39.99,
America’s Publishing Clearing
House for $29.99 and Rooms
To Go for $903.25. The resi
dent said the purchases were
made with a Wells Fargo credit
card. The resident said she
also received a collection notice
from Rooms To Go stating her
account balance was $5,645.
The resident said she didn’t
know how her personal infor
mation was obtained and said
she did not authorize any of the
transactions. She also reviewed
her credit report and noticed an
unfamiliar address listed on her
credit history.
Deputies find pot
in woman s vehicle
A 27-year-old white Evans
woman and a 29-year-old white
Albany man were each arrested
and charged with possession
of marijuana and obstruc
tion after a traffic stop on 1-75
South on Oct. 18. At about 4:31
a.m., Dep. Kevin Williams saw
a vehicle without tag lights
on 1-75 South. Williams asked
the female driver, who seemed
lethargic, for her license. The
driver then handed Williams
the male passenger’s license
instead of her own. Williams
conducted field sobriety tests on
the driver and did not see any
sign of impairment. Williams
noticed the passenger appeared
nervous, and Williams asked
the driver why the passenger
seemed that way. The driver
said it was because the passen
ger had some marijuana in the
car that he had picked up from
the gas station. The passenger
then denied he was nervous.
He refused to answer whether
there was anything illegal in
the vehicle, saying he did not
want to incriminate himself. He
then changed his mind and said
there was nothing illegal in the
car. Williams then put the driv
er and passenger together, and
asked the driver again about
the marijuana in the vehicle.
The driver denied in front of
the passenger that there was
any marijuana. The driver then
allowed Williams to search the
vehicle when he told her he
would bring in a K-9 unit if she
didn’t allow it. Williams and
Dep. Daniel Ahlstrom searched
the vehicle and found a small
bag containing a green leafy
substance believed to be mari
juana in a prescription bottle
in the glove compartment. The
driver was also charged with
violation of tag light require
ments.
DUI for Jackson
driver on Hwy. 42
A 36-year-old white Jackson
man was arrested and charged
with DUI after a traffic stop
on Hwy. 42 North on Oct. 19.
At about 1:22 a.m., Sgt. Kirk
Seckinger, Cpl. Sam Leggett,
and Deps. Daniel Ahlstrom,
Burt Richie and Kevin Williams
were conducting a license
checkpoint on Hwy. 42 North
near Fairview Church Road
Blazer sped by an illuminated
patrol vehicle and a Sheriffs
Office checkpoint sign. Several
deputies then ordered the male
driver to stop, and he complied.
Williams asked the driver why
he didn’t stop initially, and
the driver said it was because
he didn’t see them. Williams
smelled the odor of alcohol com
ing from inside the SUV. The
driver said he was coming from
CT’s bar in Forsyth and admit
ted to drinking three liquor
drinks. The driver then failed
two field sobriety tests before
declining to take anymore. The
driver said he wanted either
to go home or go to jail. The
driver then tested below the
legal limit for alcohol on a field
breath test. However, Williams
asked the driver if he had also
taken prescription medication,
and the driver admitted to
taking a Xanax on the way to
the bar. The driver then took
a blood test at Monroe County
Hospital. While at the hospital,
the driver kept saying, “Man, I
am f- drunk. Just come on
and take me to f- jail.” The
driver was also charged with
failure to comply with an officer
directing traffic.
Firecrackers cause
blaze in Rivoli Farms
At about 2:29 p.m. on Oct.
19, Dep. Antwoin Jones went
to a North Rivoli Farms Drive
home about a fire. Cpt. Keith
Hester of the Monroe County
Fire Department said an explo
sive device was involved in the
fire. Jones met with a female
resident who said her 12-year-
old brother taped six sparkler
firecrackers together and set
them on fire. The female resi
dent said her brother then tried
to throw the firecrackers out of
his window, but they ignited in
his hand while he was throwing
them. The brother corroborated
the resident’s story. Jones saw
a napkin on the brother’s left
hand, and the brother said that
was the hand with which he
was holding the firecrackers.
Jones asked the brother to let
him see his hand, and it was
slightly red. The investigation
was turned over to Inv. Lawson
Bittick.
Tablets, pistol stolen
items in burglary on
High Falls Rd.
At about 8:55 p.m. on Oct.
19, Dep. Burt Richie went to a
High Falls Road home about a
burglary. The female homeown
er said someone had entered
her home between 2 p.m. and
5 p.m. that day. The female
homeowner said both the front
and back doors were locked
and dead bolted, so the sus
pect possibly entered through
a dog door on the back door
to the home. The stolen items
included: two Asus Google
Nexus 7 tablets, a .25-caliber
Smith and Wesson pistol with
an unknown serial number, a
Verizon Wireless internet box,
an electronic book reader and
a half bottle of prescription
Lortab tablets. The stolen items
were valued at about $985. A
female resident, a 35-year-old
white Forsyth woman, was
arrested at the scene for having
a valid arrest warrant out of
Monroe County, but the arrest
did not pertain to the reported
burglary.
Pot found in vehicle
during traffic stop on
Montpelier Road
A 19-year-old white Forsyth
man was arrested and charged
with DUI after a traffic stop
on Montpelier Road on Oct.
18. At about 2:44 a.m., Dep.
Daniel Ahlstrom saw a silver
Mitsubishi Montero Sport fail
ing to maintain its lane while
traveling north on Montpelier
Road near the Forsyth city
limits. Ahlstrom immediately
smelled the strong odor of burnt
marijuana when he approached
the front driver side window.
The male driver said he was fol
lowing a friend home and had
gotten lost. Ahlstrom asked the
driver if he had been drinking
or smoking marijuana, and he
said no. Ahlstrom told the driv
er he smelled marijuana in his
car, and he told the driver not
to lie to him. The driver then
admitted he smoked marijuana
about two hours prior and
had consumed a drink about
five hours prior. The driver
admitted there were two small
bags of marijuana behind the
driver’s seat that belonged to
two friends he had been smok
ing with earlier. The driver
then failed several field sobriety
tests. Dep. Kevin Williams then
arrived at the scene to assist.
Ahlstrom searched the car and
found two glass smoking pipes
with burnt marijuana in them,
a grinder containing marijuana
and several small plastic bags.
The driver was taken to Monroe
County Hospital, where he sub
mitted a blood test. The driver
was also charged with failure to
maintain lane and possession of
marijuana.
Truck reported
stolen from yard
At about 12:45 p.m. on Oct.
21, Dep. Kianda Pritchett went
to a Bass Circle home about a
stolen vehicle. The male resi
dent said his pickup truck had
been stolen out of his yard.
The resident said he last saw
the truck parked in his yard at
about 9 a.m., and said he usual
ly leaves the key in the ignition.
He said the truck was a bright
red 2001 two-door CMC Sierra
with a Georgia tag. He said the
truck had chrome wheels, black
step sides, black trim along the
door and side panels, a Georgia
tag on the front and a Georgia
Bulldogs sticker on the tailgate.
The stolen truck was valued at
about $5,500.
Jonesboro man
charged with stealing
woman s purse
A 29-year-old black Jonesboro
man was arrested and charged
with entering auto, criminal
trespass and theft by taking
after he allegedly stole a purse
from a vehicle in a daycare
center parking lot on Hwy. 41
South on Oct. 21. At about 8:24
a.m., Cpl. Todd Haskins went
to the Little Angels Daycare
center on Hwy. 41 South about
a theft. A female witness said
the male suspect’s vehicle was
a silver or bluish gray Hyundai
car with out of state plates, pos
sibly New York. The witness
said she saw the Hyundai pull
up slowly beside a woman’s
vehicle, step out of his own
vehicle and bust out the win
dow of the woman’s vehicle. The
witness said the suspect was
a black male wearing a black
shirt, gloves and possibly blue
jeans. She said the suspect left
the parking lot headed north
toward Forsyth. The woman
said her Michael Kors purse,
containing a Samsung Galaxy
S-4 phone and $30 to $40 cash,
was taken from her vehicle.
Moments later, a vehicle match
ing the witness’ description was
spotted by Dep. Paul Stewart
at the Shell station on Harold
G. Clarke Pkwy. Stewart said
the suspect was standing by the
fuel pump as he was driving
up but had gotten back into his
vehicle and pulled around the
store. Dep. Caleb Dunn then
arrived at the scene and saw
the vehicle parked behind a
tractor trailer near a dumpster.
The deputies stopped the sus
pect’s car when he tried to pull
out of the parking lot. The sus
pect’s license came back as sus
pended. Dunn spotted the sto
len cell phone in the passenger
side floorboard of the suspect’s
vehicle. Stewart then checked
around the dumpster and found
the stolen purse inside of it.
