U.S. senate candidate
David Perdue brought his
campaign to the Forsyth
Dairy Queen last
Thursday, just 12 days
before Election Day, telling
supporters if they're out
raged about the size and
scope of the federal gov
ernment and failed poli
cies of President Obama,
then he needs their vote.
"I'm going to Washington
to fight for Georgia, and
with your help and [if]
God's willing, we will not
let [Democratic Senate
Majority Leader] Harry
Reid have one more vote
in the U.S. Senate."
Perdue made his second
stop in Forsyth in a month
as polls showed his small
but consistent lead had all
but evaporated last week.
As the race has tightened,
the nation's eyes have
pointed to Georgia as key
for whether Republicans
can re-take control of the
senate after eight years in
Democrat hands.
The former CEO is criss
crossing the state in an
RV to try to close the deal
in his first run for political
office.
Perdue's wife Bonnie
introduced her husband to
about 40 supporters stand
ing on Dairy Queen’s
patio, touting his strong
work ethic and love for her
and their children.
Perdue said he decided
to run for senate because
he was frustrated with the
direction of the country.
Perdue noted that polls
show 70 percent of
Americans think the coun
try is on the wrong track.
He said he met one of
them recently in Griffin, a
man with a wife and two
college-age daughters
whose health insurance
was cancelled. They found
a new policy but their
monthly premium jumped
from $648 to $1292 per

Senate candidate David Perdue hands out ice cream at the
month.
"He said, 'I can't make
that work. I've got more
going out than coming in.
The people in Washington
are not listening to me.'"
Perdue said however you
measure the president's
performance - whether
foreign policy, the debt,
immigration, healthcare or
the economy - he's failing.
If voters like the direction
of the country, said
Perdue, then they've got to
vote for his opponent,
Michelle Nunn.
"She's gonna be a proxy
and a rubber stamp for
Barack Obama and noth
ing will change," said
Perdue.
Perdue said he's running
to return the country to its
founding principles, which
he said were economic
opportunity, fiscal respon
sibility, limited govern
ment and individual liber
ties.
After his stump speech,
Perdue was asked about
Obama's appointment of
Ron Klain as the so-called
Ebola Czar. He said he
questions the appointment
of a former lobbyist to
handle a health issue.
Asked about reports that
the administration has
ordered 30 million green
cards as Obama says he'll
announce an executive
action on amnesty for ille
gal immigrants after the
election, Perdue called the
move "unconscionable".
"He's abused the execu
tive order authority, and
Congress has to step up
and challenge that," said
Perdue. "That [executive
amnesty] opens the door
for everybody in the world
including Ebola victims."
Perdue noted that Nunn
said she defers to the pres
ident on issues like Ebola,
and he said that shows
the clear choice voters
have between him and
Nunn. Perdue noted that
Obama himself has said
he needs Nunn in the sen
ate to continue his poli
cies.
Asked about polls show
ing Nunn gaining on him,
Perdue said, "I don't pay
attention to the polls."
But later he noted that
Gov. Nathan Deal was
only leading by 2 points in
the final poll before win-

ning by 8 points in 2010,
and that his cousin former
Gov. Sonny Perdue was
trailing the final poll by 14
before winning by 8 points
in 2002.
"Just like in the primary
and in the runoff (which
he won)," said Perdue,
"we've got to make sure
we get our voters out."
Monroe County govern
ment watchdog John
Ricketson, a Republican at
Thursday's rally, said he
thinks the election will be
close. But he said with
Nunn running ads against
President Obama, the
leader of her own party, it
shows she must be scared.
"It's gonna be tight but I
think Perdue will prevail,"
said Ricketson.
With a libertarian candi
date in the race, most
polls show neither Nunn
or Perdue getting more
than 50 percent needed to
avoid a runoff. If that hap
pens, the runoff will be
held Jan. 6. Thus the bal
ance of power in the U.S.
senate might not be decid
ed until then.
