Kathy Hammock values relationships with clients
Kathy F. Hammock,an award-win
ning financial advisor with 30 years of
experience serving clients of all ages
and stages of life, manages Stonewall
Asset Mgt., Inc., located at 140
Fairway Run in Forsyth.
Whether corporations, endowment
funds, retirement plans or individuals,
Hammock's passion is to help people
sort through the maze of financial
questions and options and construct a
plan that they understand and with
which they are uncomfortable.
Hammock offers a wide range of serv
ices including: complete financial plan
ning, investment advisory services
(stocks, bonds, mutual funds, exchange
traded funds, fixed and variable annu
ities and alternative investments), per
sonal and corporate retirement plan
ning (IRAs, Roth IRAs, SEP IRAs and
40 Iks, college savings programs, life
insurance and long-term care insur
ance.
Hammock works with clients of all
account sizes. When she was a young
advisor, she was often told that to be
successful, she should aim to work with
clients who had a lot of money.
"I never could get comfortable with
that idea because everyone needs good
financial advice, not just the super
rich," Hammock said. "My willingness
to work with anyone who needs direc
tion has been rewarded many times. I
remember one day in particular when I
worked for a large firm, a disheveled
gentleman in dirty overalls came by
and wanted to talk with an advisor. No
one else expressed any interest in help
ing the gentleman, so I volunteered.
Needless to say, appearances can be
deceiving and the gentleman became
one of my largest and most loyal
clients. He told me later that he knew
if he came to that office dressed like
he'd just come from out of the field,
he'd probably end up with an advisor
that shared his values."
Hammock added, "In my practice, we
are profit-conscious but not profit-driv
en. To this day, whether a person has
$10,000 or $10 million, I'm more than
willing to work with them. Like my
Mama always says, 'You don't ever
need to get too big for your britches.'"
Hammock said she was truly honored
to receive the 2013 Best Financial
Advisor of Monroe County award, but
what is most gratifying to her is when
a client tells her, 'You really make this
easy to understand.' Hammock's under
graduate degree was in education, not
finance, so she tries to bring her love of
teaching to her career.
"I explain financial concepts by using
examples and word pictures that peo
ple can relate to," Hammock said.
"When Jesus was talking to a group of
fishermen, he used stories about fish
ing to share a truth. We all learn best
when a person speaks our language
rather than using a lot of industry-spe
cific terms to try to impress us."
Hammock has some key words of
advice for her clients. She said she tells
her clients to work with a professional
that they trust, to create an appropri
ate plan and then to tune out the noise
of all the talking heads and stay
focused on their own personal goals.
Hammock said her over-arching
investment philosophy is inspired by a
Warren Buffett quote: "Rule No.l:
Don't lose money. Rule No.2: Never for
get Rule No.l!"
Hammock said her guiding principles
in her business are her relationship
with all of her clients is based on a
deep respect for their wealth and the
sacrifices made to attain it along with
a high regard for the legacy of inter-
generational wealth. Hammock
believes in preserving and growing
wealth through sound portfolio alloca
tion principles, disciplined investment
methodology, realistic expectations and
excellent client service.
Hammock said her No.l priority is to
be a catalyst for good in her clients'
lives.
"You may remember the quote by
Marcus Aurelius, paraphrased in the
movie, 'Gladiator,' 'What we do now
echoes in eternity.' The decisions I help
clients make today ripple through
future generations. These aren't life or
death decisions, but they are certainly
quality of life decisions, and they will
matter forever."
Hammock said the thing she most
enjoys about her career is she always
feels challenged with the ever-changing
global economy and the evolution of
laws and financial trends. She also
loves getting young people to invest
early.
Hammock said, "There's an old say
ing, 'The best time to plant an oak tree
is a hundred years ago. The next best
time is now.' Young people have time
on their side if they are wise enough to
use it."
