the Pulmonary Center
at Coliseum Medical
Center will sponsor
Biking for Better
Breathing, a 50-mile
bike ride through
Monroe and Jones coun
ties. Cyclists will start
their ride outside the
Whistle Stop Cafe, 433
McCrackin Street, in
Juliette at 7 a.m. The
course will take them
along scenic Hwy. 11 to
the Jones County
Government Center and
back There will be stops
along the way when rid
ers will learn about
COPD and pick up a
playing care. The cyclist
with the best hand at
the finish will win a free
massage from Holistic
Touch Therapeutic
Massage. Registration is
$35 and includes lunch;
all proceeds benefit the
COPD Foundation.

Hospital Auxiliary will
hold a $5 Masquerade
Jewelry & Accessories
Sate on Monday, Nov.
10, from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. in
the hospital dining
room. In addition to jew
elry and jewelry sets,
there will be other item
like scarves, umbrellas,
and purses, perfect for
gifts or to complete an
outfit. All funds raised
benefit Monroe County
Hospital and the com
munity. Cash, credit and
debit cards will be
accepted. Come find that

GOP to recognize
veterans
Monroe County
Republican Party will
have a Veterans Day
recognition meeting on
Monday, Nov. 10 at This
Little Piggy Bar-B-Q,
866 Indian Springs
Drive, Forsyth, at 6
p.m.. Veterans will be
there from WWII, the
Vietnam war and the
Iraq/Afghanistan war.

Veterans Day
ceremony
Monroe County will
observe Veterans Day on
Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 11
a.m. on the Courthouse
lawn. The program will
feature a flag retirement
ceremony by local Boy
Scouts and music by
Betty Browning, who
will sing the National
Anthem and "God Bless
America," and by popu
lar duo Doc and Not
Doc. Veterans and active
duty members of all
branches of U.S. mili
tary service will be rec
ognized during the pro
gram. All veterans and
military families and
supporters are encour
aged to attend and rec
ognized those who have
sacrificed to service the
U.S. and those who
enjoy the way of life and
ideals it represents.

4-H Poinsettia
Sale
The 11th annual
Monroe County 4-H
Poinsettia Sale will be
Oct 21-Nov. 11. 4-H will
take orders for large (3
feet) and medium (1 and
one-half feet) poinset-
tias. These plants are in
full bloom and are gor
geous. Large plants are
$20 and medium are
$15; the price includes
the sleeve for the pot.
Red, white and pink
plants are available.
This is a fundraiser for
Monroe County 4-H to
help keep the cost of
programs low for the
youth in the county.
Poinsettias are to be
picked up Dec. 4-5, 8
a.m.-5 p.m. at the 4-H
office, 90 Martin Luther
King Jr. Drive, Forsyth.

Langford meets
war hero Adkins
George Langford of High Falls is a
member of the Veterans of Foreign
Wars National Legislative
Committee.On his return flight from
Washington earlier this year, he was
honored to meet Command Sgt. Major
Bennie Adkins of Opelika, Ala. Adkins
was presented with the Medal of Honor
by President Obama on Monday, for his
valor in Vietnam. He also has (an un
heard of) 18 Purple Hearts. Upon ar
rival at the terminal, Adkins was hon
ored by Delta employees as well.

Jamarion, a student at
Hubbard Elementary,
was diagnosed with
glioblastoma, an aggres
sive brain tumor, and is
undergoing
chemotherapy
and radiation
treatments.

Bolingbroke Parade is coming
The 23rd Annual Bolingbroke
Christmas Parade will be Saturday,
Dec. 6. It will begin its route
through beautiful downtown
Bolingbroke at 3 p.m. Pre-parade
festivities, including the cake walk
and vendors with snacks and
drinks, will begin at 2 p.m. Santa
and Mrs. Claus will be available for
visits with children in Santa's
Bolingbroke Workshop after the
parade. The event is sponsored by
the Bolingbroke Community Club. For

Georgia’s regular
Energy Assistance
Program opened
Tuesday, Nov. 4, for
Monroe County house
holds where all resi
dents are 65 years of
age or older.
Appointments will be
made by phone only and
began at 8:15 a.m. on
Nov. 4. The program
provides financial assis
tance to low-income and
the elderly to help pay
their home heating
costs.
Households participat
ing in the program must
meet income criteria
and be responsible for
the cost of heating their
homes. To be eligible,
households must have
an income equal to or
less than 60 percent of
the state median income
guidelines - $21,180 for
a one-person household,
$27,697 for two people,
$34,212 for three people,
etc.
Payments will be made
primarily by checks to
home energy suppliers
for gas, electricity and
propane used in heating
a home. The one-time
payments will average
$345 per household.
Applicants should con
tact their local
Neighborhood Service
Center at phone number
478-993-3029 to make
an appointment or for
more information. The
program will close when
funds are depleted.
Appointments will be
made by phone only.
Households whose fuel
costs are included in
their rent, or receive a
utility check are NOT
eligible for assistance.

released and advertised
at a later date.
