INCIDENTS
ARRESTS
The following arrests
were reported by the
Monroe County Sheriff’s
Office Oct. 23-29. An
arrest means someone
has been charged with
a crime, but the law
considers them innocent
until proven guilty.
Macon driver s
vehicle found in
middle of road
A 25-year-old black
Macon man was
arrested and charged
with DUI after a one-
car wreck on Hwy. 41
South. At about 4:25
a.m. on Oct. 24, Dep.
Kevin Williams went
to the intersection of
Hwy. 41 South and
Thornton Road about a
car accident. Williams
saw a blue Chevrolet
Monte Carlo parked
broadside in the road
on Thornton Road with
the male driver walk
ing toward it. He asked
the driver what was
wrong with the car. The
driver responded he
wasn’t sure, but thought
it might be out of gas.
Williams noticed the
odor of alcohol com
ing from the driver,
who told Williams his
license was suspended.
Williams then asked
the driver how his car
ended up in the middle
of the road. The driver
said that was where he
stopped. Williams saw
tire marks in the ditch
on Hwy. 41 South for
about 50 yards that
matched his car’s path.
The driver was sway
ing very badly, and he
said he had drunk a
few beers with friends
in Macon. The driver
then failed several field
sobriety tests and tested
above the legal limit for
alcohol on a field breath
test. Once at the Monroe
County Jail, the driver
refused a state breath
test. The driver was also
charged with failure to
maintain lane, improper
stopping in roadway and
driving while license
suspended.
Resident reports
AR-15 rifle stolen
from garage
At about 5:14 p.m. on
Oct. 23, Dep. Antwoin
Jones went to an
Orchard Ridge Drive
home about a theft.
The male resident said
when he looked into
his garage that day, he
noticed his rifle was
missing. The resident
said he last saw his
rifle in his garage on
Oct. 8. The rifle was a
black Stag Arms Model
8 AR-15 with a B.S.A.
scope. The resident said
he suspected the rifle
was stolen by someone
in his neighborhood. The
stolen rifle was valued
at about $1,200.
Resident reports
female neighbor
threatened her
At about 7:43 a.m. on
Oct. 24, Dep. P. Stewart
met with a female
Rumble Road resident
who said she and her
male cousin were clean
ing and burning under
brush at the top of her
driveway on Oct. 23.
The resident said dur
ing this time her female
neighbor came down to
the opposite side of the
property line in a vehi
cle and yelled out the
window, “I’m going to
shoot you.” The resident
said the vehicle then
traveled up and down
Rumble Road several
times very aggressively.
The resident said she
spoke with Inv. Martin
Ursitti on the phone,
and Ursitti spotted the
vehicle at the Rumble
Road BP station. At
about 11:14 a.m., Sgt.
William Jackson met
with the neighbor at the
BP station. The neigh
bor said the resident
and her cousin followed
her from her home to
the gas station. The
neighbor said the resi
dent got out and walked
around her vehicle in
an effort to intimidate
her. The resident and
her neighbors have had
numerous incidents
involving property
disputes and alleged
threats toward each
other, so Jackson spoke
with Monroe County
Magistrate Judge Diane
Williams about having
a pre-warrant hearing
where the two sides
could hopefully resolve
their issues.
MP student s
mother reports
cell phone theft
At about 9:48 p.m.
on Oct. 24, Dep. King
met with the mother of
a Mary Persons High
School student who said
someone had stolen
her son’s Apple iPhone
while at school on Oct.
20. The mother said the
phone was taken by two
unknown males and its
location had been traced
to a Willis Circle home.
The mother said there
had been several similar
recent thefts at the high
school. The iPhone was
white in color and val
ued at about $300.
Forsyth buyer
purchases truck
stolen out of
Bartow County
At about 4:17 p.m. on
Oct, 24, Sgt, William
Jackson met with a
Forsyth man about
a stolen truck. The
man said he bought a
green 2001 Chevrolet
Silverado pickup truck
from Rivers Auto Sales
in Jackson on Sept, 12.
The man said he tried
to register the truck but
was denied because it
was reported as stolen.
A GCIC check of the
truck’s vehicle identifi
cation number revealed
it was reported stolen on
Aug. 18 out of Bartow
County. Jackson then
contacted Rivers Auto
Sales, and a female
employee said Rivers
had bought the truck
from Auto Cash Auction
in Union City. Auto
Cash had bought the
truck from Title Max
in Carterville, and the
female Title Max district
manager said the truck
had been repossessed on
Aug. 20. Jackson then
contacted a male Bartow
County Sheriffs Office
investigator and told
him the truck had been
recovered. The investi
gator said the theft case
was ongoing. Jackson
allowed the man to take
the truck to his home,
but instructed him not
to drive it until he was
given permission by a
Monroe County sheriffs
deputy.
