June 10, 1951 - Sept. 17, 2015
A Memorial Service will be held for Ellen Wilder

at the Forsyth United Methodist Church, 68 West
Johnston Street, Forsyth. Immediately following
the Service, the family will remain at the church to

Mrs. Pryor, born June 10, 1951 in Forsyth, passed
away on Sept. 17, 2015 and was predeceased by her
beloved spouse Shepherd G. Pryor III of Atlanta.
She was the daughter of the late Frank N. Wilder
III and Billie Wilder Baxley and a 1969 graduate of
Mary Persons High School.
Ellen, a retired CPA, received both a BS in Home
Economics at Georgia Southern University in
1974 and a BBA in Accounting from Kennesaw
State University in 1989. She lived in the Atlanta
area for most of her adult life, and was married to

Shooting
continued from front
white Chevy Silverado
heading west on Hwy.
41 toward Barnesville.
Lamar County sher
iff Brad White saw
Bowden’s vehicle in
Barnesville and tried
to make a stop, but
Bowden fled on Hwy.
341 south.
Bowden continued
toward Culloden, driv
ing at about 70 mph
while holding a gun to
his own head. Bowden
went through the round
about on Culloden and
continued on Hwy. 341
into Crawford County.
Finally a Monroe
County deputy did a
PIT maneuver to stop
Bowden and Bowden’s
truck rolled over land
ing on its top. Deputies
then heard a gunshot
and found that Bowden
had killed himself after
wrecking.
Wilson, meanwhile,
is at Medical Center
Navicent in Macon
where he has somehow
survived five gunshot
wounds as doctors have
performed multiple
surgeries to repair his
colon, spleen, liver and
jaw, said Brown. Brown
said Wilson still has
bullet fragments in his
head.
“To my surprise, I
think he’ll make it,” said
Brown. “I don’t know
how the guy made it.”
Brown said that
Bowden’s girlfriend,
Tawana Harris, lives
in Apt. 26 at Piedmont
Hills. But Wilson, who
is married, told police
he was going to see
Bowden’s aunt, Priscilla
Harris, after a job inter
view in Barnesville.
Wilson said he was
going to visit Priscilla
Harris because they
used to work together at
Target in McDonough.
Wilson was talking to
Priscilla Harris on his
cell phone as he drove
into the Piedmont Hills
parking lot, said Brown.
He had never been there
before and didn’t know
which apartment was
hers, said Brown. After
Wilson pulled into the
parking lot in his Toyota
Highlander and saw a
man there, who turned
out to be Bowden, he
asked him for the loca
tion of the apartment
number he had, said
Brown. Priscilla Harris
was Bowden’s aunt.
But Bowden apparently
suspected that Wilson
was there to see his girl
friend, said Brown, and
opened the passenger
door and fired a shot at
Bowden, said Brown.
Then, he moved around
to the driver’s side,
smashed out the window
and pulled Wilson out
of the SUV and shot
him again. As Wilson
stumbled away from the
vehicle, Bowden shot
several more times,
and even shot him after
Wilson fell to the pave
ment before taking off.
Brown said if he had
to wager, he’d bet jeal
ousy is the motive. He
said Bowden and his
girlfriend had been hav
ing trouble and said
that Bowden, who didn’t
have a job, was battling
depression.
“He thought she was
running around on him,”
said Brown. “This guy
was having serious men
tal issues.”
But Brown said they
can’t rule out robbery,
because they haven’t
found Wilson’s wallet or
wedding band.
Wilson was talking to
paramedics as he was
leaving by ambulance
for the Medical Center
Navicent. Corley said
Forsyth police usu
ally get fewer calls to
Piedmont Hills than any
other apartment com
plex, calling it a “nice,
quiet place”.
Brown collected shell
casings around three
pools of blood visible
in the parking lot. The
Toyota Highlander was
parked with two wheels
on a nearby curb and
had a broken driver’s
side window.
Bowden’s uncle,
Darrell Bowden, is
serving a life prison
sentence for stabbing
a Missouri man at a
Forsyth motel in 1989.

Debate
continued from front
in the race to fill Wilson’s
Post 2 slot on coun
cil: Alleta Mays, Chris
Hewett and Tye Howard.
Mays ran unsuccessfully
in the last election for
council in 2013. Hewitt
served on council until he
was defeated for re-elec
tion in 2007. Tye Howard
was Forsyth’s mayor until
he was defeated by John
Howard in the 2011 elec
tion.
In the race for Post 1 on
council incumbent Jimmy
Jones will face Dexter
King. King unsuccessfully
sought a council seat in
2013, when Jones was
elected to fill an expired
council term in his first
bid for office. Incumbent
Greg Goolsby, who was
also elected to fill an
unexpired term in 2013,
is challenged for Post 4 by
newcomer Nakia Davis.
Council member Melvin
Lawrence, who has served
on city council for three
terms, is unopposed in his
bid to begin a new term
in 2016.
City council approved
a change to its charter
this year so that council
members will be elected
by posts rather than at
large. Previously candi
dates who garnered the
most votes among all of
those running would win
the open seats. Now vot
ers will cast votes for each
of the four posts that are
open, choosing between
the candidates that have
qualified for that post.
Post numbers do not
represent geographi
cal districts; all voters
in Forsyth will vote for
all posts as well as for
mayor.
Council members Mike
Dodd (Post 6) and Julius
Stroud (Post 5) are not up
for re-election until 2017.
Early voting begins
on Monday, Oct. 12 and
will continue through
Thursday, Oct. 29.
Election Day is Tuesday,
Nov. 3.
