INCIDENTS
The following incidents
were reported by the
Monroe County Sheriffs
Department May 21-31.
Forsyth woman
arrested for DUI
after Freeman
Road traffic stop
A 68-year-old white
Forsyth woman was
arrested and charged
with DUI after a traffic
stop on Freeman Road
on May 31. At about
9:37 p.m., Dep. Kianda
Pritchett was notified
by dispatchers to be on
the lookout for a reck
less driver traveling
south on Hwy. 42 North
from Butts County.
Dispatchers said a blue
Ford pickup truck had
driven into oncoming
traffic and nearly col
lided with several other
vehicles. Dispatchers
then determined the
truck had driven into a
ditch before returning to
the road. Pritchett and
Sgt. Chad Beck then saw
the truck in the driveway
of a Freeman Road home.
The truck, which was
parked in front of the
home, was still hot. The
female driver then met
the deputies in the front
yard. The driver said
her husband was ill and
she had just returned
from picking up food in
Jackson. She said while
returning from Jackson,
she had dropped her
cup on the floor of the
truck. She said when
she leaned down to pick
it up, it caused her to
drive on the wrong side
of the road. The driver,
who was unsteady on her
feet, denied consuming
any alcohol or taking any
medications. The driver
then failed several field
sobriety tests. The driver
submitted a blood sam
ple at Monroe County
Hospital before being
taken to the Monroe
County Jail. The driver
was also charged with
failure to maintain lane.
Juliette woman
charged with
meth possession
in traffic stop
A 33-year-old white
Juliette woman was
arrested and charged
with possession of meth-
amphetamine after a
traffic stop on May 27.
At about 2:08 p.m., Dep.
Kemeyan Colvard went
to Hwy. 41 South near
the 1-475 entrance ramp
where he saw a beige
1992 Toyota Corolla with
an expired temporary
tag. The female driver
told Colvard she didn’t
have enough money
to buy a tag. Both the
driver and the male pas
senger appeared very
nervous. The driver
denied having anything
illegal inside her car
and allowed Colvard to
search. Colvard then saw
the driver throw a clear
pipe containing a white
substance behind her.
Sgt. Rhonda Seckinger
then searched the driver
and found a clear bag
containing suspected
methamphetamine in the
driver’s bra. The passen
ger, a 34-year-old white
Knoxville man, was also
arrested and charged
with a parole violation.
The driver was also
charged with having an
expired tag, a windshield
violation, having no valid
insurance, obstruction
and possession of drug
related objects.
Marietta worker
reported dead in
passenger seat
on Garr Road
At about 9:48 a.m.
on May 31, Dep. Jake
Justice went to a Garr
Road home where a male
Monroe County EMT
said a dead man was
lying on the ground on
the passenger side of
a vehicle. A male 9-1-1
caller told Justice the
man contacted him via
telephone at 7:30 a.m.
and told him he wanted
to go to his sister’s home
on Garr Road. The caller
said he, the man and
three other persons then
traveled to New Walton
High School in Marietta
where the man worked.
The caller said when
they arrived at the Garr
Road home, they exited
the vehicle and discov
ered the man was dead.
Sgts. Rhonda Seckinger
and Chris Landers then
arrived at the scene at
about 10:15 a.m. The
investigation was turned
over to Landers, and the
man’s body was sent to
the GBI crime lab.
Deputies locate
nearly $13,000
in cash during
1-75 South stop
A 26-year-old black
Buford woman and a
28-year-old black Buford
man were each arrest
ed and charged with
Violation of the Georgia
Controlled Substance
Act after a traffic stop
on 1-75 South on May
28. At about 8:20 a.m.,
Sgt. Michael Hull saw a
red 2015 Dodge Charger
traveling 89 mph in a 70
mph zone on 1-75 South
near mile marker 191.
Hull also saw the female
driver and male passen
ger were moving around
inside the vehicle. Hull
noticed the driver’s hand
was shaking as she hand
ed him her license. He
also saw marijuana on
her shirt, but the driver
denied it was marijuana.
The driver brushed it off
while saying it was just
food. When Hull com
mented, “Green food,”
the driver remained
silent. When the driver
again denied having
marijuana, he told her he
intended to search her.
The driver then admit
ted to having Percocet
pills hidden in her crotch
area. The driver said she
was headed to Orlando,
Fla. for vacation for two
days. The driver then
removed the pills from
her pants, and the pas
senger said they had got
ten the pills for free from
and unknown person in
Gwinnett County. Hull
then searched the vehicle
and saw remnants of
marijuana scattered on
the floorboard. Under
the front passenger seat
was a Crown Royal bag
containing $12,983 in
cash, which the passen
ger said was for their
vacation. However, Hull
saw the passenger had
not packed any clothes
for the two-day trip, and
the driver had very little
clothing in the car. Hull
allowed the passenger
to follow him to the jail
since they had two young
children traveling with
them. The driver and
passenger were then
allowed to wait with
their children in the
sheriffs office lobby until
the passenger’s mother
picked them up. Once at
the sheriffs office, Dep.
John Thompson walked
his K-9 dog around the
money, and the dog
alerted on it very quickly
even though it was hid
den inside of a copy
machine. Deputies then
determined the driver
had 28 Oxycontin pills in
her possession.
Resident reports
ex-wife spilled
water on $300
piano keyboard
At about 9:04 p.m. on
May 27, Dep. Presley
Ritchie went to a Jeffrey
Way home where the
male resident said his
ex-wife poured water on
his piano keyboard. The
resident said his ex-wife
told him on May 25 that
she accidentally spilled
water on his Yamaha
piano, valued at $300.
However, he said when
he got home, there was
no sign of water damage.
The resident said his ex-
wife later accused him
of cheating and told him
via text message that
“she was going to get him
back.” The resident said
when he returned home
he noticed the piano was
unplugged from the wall
and was saturated with
water. The resident was
unable to show Ritchie
his ex-wife’s text to prove
malicious intent. Ritchie
then told the resident
he could not charge the
ex-wife if she said it was
an accident. He then
referred the resident
to the Monroe County
Magistrate Court.

At about 5:51 p.m.
on May 31, Dep. Jacob
Robins went to a Bagley
Road home where the
male homeowner said
he went to his cabin at
about 8 p.m. the previ
ous night and noticed his
Remington model 870
shotgun was missing.
The homeowner said he
keeps the shotgun over
the door to the cabin.
He added that a knife
that was in a case by

friend that was coming to
stay. He said the friend
never ended up staying
and he never got back to
lock the cabin back up.
The homeowner said the
shotgun was an old state
trooper shotgun with a
black rubber forearm
grip and a wood stock.
He did not know the
gun’s serial number. He
