How much is 65 lbs.?
Barry and Diana Wilks of Forsyth
have lost 65 pounds the past eight
months. How much is 65 pounds?
Here are some equivalents:
• 240 sticks of butter
• 640 Oreos
• 40 dozen eggs
• 8 gallons of water
• 4 Thanksgiving Turkeys
• a bushel of wheat
• a collie or husky or 5 weenie dogs

ness
ing birth to daughters
Anna and Abi, it’s been
even harder to stay in
shape. Finally, after much
prayer and a referral from
a friend last October,
she joined Shibboleth, a
Christian mission driven
weight loss ministry. That
was the start..
Then in March, Barry
went, to the doctor for
his annual checkup and
was prescribed two new
medications after his lab
work came back with
some troubling numbers.
Suddenly he too had an
interest, in getting back to
good health.
Diana said they slowly
began changing their
lifestyle. They started
eating smaller portions
and began exercising.
Shibboleth has a free
basic training that, teaches
portions and combinations
that, are easy to follow.
Already, Diana has lost 40
pounds and Barry, 25.
Barry has tweaked his
diet, to include more whole
grains, lean proteins and
vegetables. He gave up his
usual breakfast, of bacon
and eggs for oatmeal.
They both aim to eat.
more lean proteins like
fish and chicken with
plenty of vegetables with
fiber. They cut. their carb
intake and eat. only whole
grains or plant-based
substitutes with high fiber
instead of breads and
pasta. Diane said they
also avoid sugars as much
as possible and drink
mostly water.
They both started drink
ing a lot. more water using
the formula of dividing
their weight, by two, and
aiming to drink that, much
water. So a 200 pound
person would drink 100
ounces per day (and per
haps use the restroom
more frequently).
When they eat. out.,
Diana said they just,
make the same choices in
restaurants that, they do
when they cook.
The Wilks’ weight, loss
has come not. only due to
changing their diet., but.
also because they started
exercising. The Wilks
bought, a treadmill in
January 2016 but. used it.
inconsistently until they
set. a goal of running a 5K.
They began training with
each other several times a
week, and it. has paid off.
Since March they have
completed five 5K races

They also have
added weight,
and core training
recently.
The results
have been tre
mendous. Diana has gone
down four dress sizes and
Barry has gone down a
pants size. Diana said
she’s given away 10 bags
of clothes.
“Because I never intend
to go back!” said Diana.
She concedes that, losing
weight, does require a lot.
of shopping to replenish
them, and acknowledges
that, eating better does
cost, more money initially.
But. she said once you
settle into a healthier
lifestyle, that, balances out.
and the gains in the long
run well outweigh the
short-term investment..
“We have been over
whelmed by friends and
family with support, and
encouragement,” said
Diana. “When someone
notices your progress,
it. compels you to keep
going and it. also holds you
accountable.”
