INCIDENTS
The following incidents
were reported by the
Monroe County Sheriffs
Department June 16-22.
Eighteen-year-
old reportedly
bitten by stray
dog on June 22
At about 6:20 p.m. on
June 22, Dep. Kianda
Pritchett went to an
Aaron Court home
where a male resident
said his 18-year-old
stepdaughter was bit
ten by a stray dog. The
resident said he then
captured the dog and
tied it to a tree in the
front yard. The resident
said his stepdaughter
saw the stray dog roam
ing the neighborhood
and brought the dog
inside the fence with
their family dog to give
it water. The resident
said the two dogs then
began to fight, and his
stepdaughter tried to
pull them apart with her
hands. He said his step
daughter while separat
ing the dogs was bitten
on both hands and on
her left leg. The step
daughter was at Monroe
County Hospital receiv
ing treatment while
Pritchett was at the
scene. A female Monroe
County Animal Control
employee then captured
the stray dog and took
it to the county’s animal
shelter.
Jackson woman
arrested for
DUI after two-
vehicle wreck
A 29-year-old white
Jackson woman was
arrested and charged
with DUI after a two-
vehicle accident at the
intersection of High
Falls and Buck Creek
roads on June 19. At
about 3:36 p.m., Sgt.
William Jackson went
to a two-vehicle wreck
on High Falls Road at
its intersection with
Buck Creek Road. When
Jackson arrived, the
male driver of the first
vehicle said he was
making a left turn onto
Buck Creek Road from
High Falls Road when
he was hit by a red 2001
Buick Century driven
by another male driver.
The first driver’s wife,
who was a passenger
in the first vehicle,
said they witnessed the
Century driver hiding
what appeared to be
beer cans under the seat
and drinking mouth
wash. Jackson then met
with the Century driver
and smelled a strong
odor of mouthwash. He
also saw the Century
driver’s eyes were blood
shot and he appeared
to be very tired. The
Century driver told
Jackson he was tak
ing his four-year-old
daughter to the High
Falls Water Park when
he hit the first vehicle.
He said he thought the
first vehicle had made
a complete turn before
he tried to turn left
onto High Falls Road.
Jackson then saw the
Century driver’s daugh
ter seated in a child
safety seat in the right
rear side of the vehicle.
Jackson then asked the
Century driver for his
license, but the Century
driver was unable to
find his wallet. He then
told Jackson he only
lives five minutes away
and may have left it at
his house. He asked if
he could leave the scene
to go get it, and Jackson
said no. Jackson then
asked the Century
driver how much alco
hol he had consumed,
but the Century driver
denied having consumed
any. Jackson then asked
him why he was drink
ing mouthwash when
he arrived, and the
Century driver denied
doing that either. The
Century driver then
admitted to having a
beer can under the front
seat but still denied
consuming any alcohol.
The Century driver then
tested a high positive
for alcohol on a field
breath test and finally
admitted to drinking
the previous night. The
Century driver then
failed several field sobri
ety tests. Jackson then
turned over the Century
driver’s vehicle and the
daughter to the driver’s
father. While Jackson
retrieved the empty beer
can from the vehicle,
he found another half-
empty beer can inside a
cup on the passenger’s
side floorboard. Once
at the Monroe County
Jail, the Century driver
tested positive for more
than two times the legal
limit of alcohol on a
state breath test. The
Century driver was also
charged with failure to
yield after stopping at
a stop sign, driving an
unregistered vehicle, an
open container violation
and endangering a child
under 14 years of age
while DUI.
Bank notifies
Forsyth resident
to contact deputy
about check
At about 4:52 p.m.
on June 21, Dep. Holly
Martinage went to a
Cottage Lane home
where a male resident
said he received a let
ter and check in the
mail from Primerica
Insurance Company.
The resident said the
letter stated the resi
dent had won $500,000
and needed to collect his
winnings. He said the
letter also stated that
an enclosed check in
the amount of $7,998.80
needed to be cashed,
deposited and used to
pay for shipping and
handling to obtain the
rest of the resident’s
winnings. The resident
said he then took the
check to the bank, where
he was advised to con
tact the Monroe County
Sheriffs Office.
Bloody-nosed
Byron driver
charged with
DUI on June 15
A 36-year-old white
Byron man was arrested
and charged with DUI
after a traffic stop on
1-75 North on June 15.
At about 1:46 a.m. on
June 15, Dep. Kianda
Pritchett saw a white
Honda Accord weav
ing across the two far
left lanes of 1-75 North
near mile marker 181.
Pritchett saw the male
driver reaching through
out the passenger com
partment as if trying
to locate something.
Pritchett then saw the
driver holding a paper
towel to his nose while
tilting his nose into the
air. Seeing blood on the
driver’s finger, Pritchett
asked him if he was
okay. The driver said his
nose was bleeding and
he was trying to make
it stop. Pritchett then
saw beer cans inside
the car, but the driver
denied having consumed
any alcohol. After the
driver failed a field
sobriety test, he then
admitted to drinking a
beer about three or four
hours earlier. The driver
then tested positive for
alcohol on a field breath
test, and Pritchett found
an empty can of Coors
Light beer on the right
rear floorboard and a
full can of Coors Light
on the front passenger
floorboard. Pritchett
then determined the
driver had previously
been charged with DUI.
When the driver’s nose
stopped bleeding, he
then took several more
field sobriety tests,
which he also failed. The
driver initially asked to
provide a blood sample
at Monroe County
Hospital before deciding
instead while en route,
“Just take me jail.”
