Three-county high-speed
chase ends in Monroe Co.
A Mississippi
man faces mul
tiple charges
after leading
authorities
on a high
speed chase
on Friday
through three
counties that
ended with a
wreck on Hwy.
87 in Monroe
County.
Sherman
Lee Dotson
Jr., 46, of
Natchez, Miss,
is charged
with reckless
driving, fleeing and
attempting to elude,
aggravated assault on
a police officer, hit-
and-run, driving on a
suspended license and
obstruction after the
20-mile pursuit. He was
finally stopped when
Georgia state trooper
Mike Brock performed
a PIT maneuver that
sent him into the ditch
with his car landing
on its side on Hwy. 87
just inside the Monroe
County line.
Henry County police
initiated a traffic stop
on Dotson after a 9-1-1
caller reported he was
driving recklessly in a
rental Chevy Malibu
on 1-75 south near Ola.
Dotson refused to stop
and exited to Hwy. 42
south. He then rammed
a Henry County sher
iffs patrol car that
a deputy was in and
kept going toward
Jackson. Butts County
sheriff Gary Long said
that unfortunately for
Dotson, Butts County
was hosting probate
court today so several
deputies were in town
when he came by at
high rates of speed.
Butts deputies joined
the chase as did trooper
Brock. Dotson led police
down Hwy. 87 into
Monroe County where
Brock tapped his rear
end causing him to spin
into the ditch and over
turn, landing on his
side. He was not seri
ously injured and was
arrested at the scene.
