CARD OF THANKS
T he family of the late Emmitt Willis Jr.
appreciates and thanks each and every
one for all the acts of love, kindness,
phone calls, food, flowers, cards and vis
its from far and near during this time
of bereavement of our loved one. We would like to
especially thank the Class of 1971, Antioch staff
and members, St. James Baptist Church, Union Hill
Baptist Church and many other churches, members,
families and friends. Thank you! God loves you and
so do we. May God bless each and every one of you.
The Willis family
Kemp
continued from front
Tuesday, Aug. 30.
In his e-mail, Kemp
wrote: “Thank you for
bearing with me during
this election year as we
all seek to resolve this
dispute in as timely a
manner as possible. As I
have previously stated,
I will consider Mr.
Scarborough’s already
submitted evidence that
I declined to consider at
the earlier proceeding
because it was submit
ted after the eviden
tiary deadline. I will
also allow the parties,
and Mr. Scarborough
should he so desire, to
submit additional evi
dence as to the location
of the true boundary line
between Monroe and
Bibb Counties. The par
ties should be prepared
to specify where they
believe the true bound
ary line lies and be pre
pared to present all the
evidence that supports
their contention.”
After notifying
Scarborough and the
attorneys of the hearing
date, Kemp continued,
“Setting a boundary line
has real consequences
for every citizen of both
counties involved. In
making such an impor
tant decision, I will
ensure that I have all
necessary evidence. I
look forward to working
with each of you to reach
a final decision on this
matter.”
In November 2015,
the Georgia Supreme
Court reversed Fulton
County Superior Court
Judge Kelly Lee’s order
that Kemp hold no more
hearings and accept no
more evidence in deter
mining where to set the
long-disputed boundary.
However, the court reit
erated Lee does have the
right to force Kemp to
set the boundary, as she
ruled in 2013. The state
Supreme Court ruled
the counties can suc
cessfully appeal Kemp’s
final decision only if the
boundary line is deemed
“arbitrary and capri
cious.”
Monroe County has
spent in excess of $2.5
million in legal fees on
the county line in the
past decade.
