INCIDENTS
The following incidents
were reported by the
Monroe County Sheriffs
Department June 30-July
5.
Forsyth woman
charged with
DUI after one-
vehicle accident
A 28-year-old black
Forsyth woman was
arrested and charged
with DUI after a one-
vehicle accident on
Collier Road on July 3.
At about 4:58 a.m., Cpl.
Kevin Williams and
Dep. Kemeyan Colvard
were dispatched to a
one-vehicle wreck on
Collier Road near its
intersection with Mize
Street. When Williams
arrived, he saw a red
2015 Hyundai Elantra
in the ditch. On the
other side of the ditch
Williams found a beer
can that was still cold.
He then looked inside
the car, but there was no
one inside. Dispatchers
then informed the
deputies that the female
driver and female pas
senger were waiting in
the lobby at Days Inn.
Williams asked the
driver why she did not
call the sheriffs office
after her wreck, and the
driver said she didn’t
have a cell phone. She
then said the wreck
had occurred because
a deer ran into the
road. Williams smelled
alcohol on the driver.
The driver’s eyes were
bloodshot and watery,
and her speech was
very thick. The driver
then failed several field
sobriety tests and tested
positive for alcohol on a
field breath test. Once at
the Monroe County Jail,
the driver tested posi
tive for more than the
legal limit of alcohol on
a state breath test. The
driver was also charged
with failure to maintain
lane.
Jackson woman
reports sending
$200 to missing
online suitor
At about 2:35 p.m.
on July 5, Sgt. Michael
Hull met with a Jackson
woman who said she
sent a man identified
as David Walker $200
through Moneygram.
The woman said she
met Walker on the inter
net on chemistry.com.
She said she’d spoken
to Walker for months
and he had promised to
come visit. The woman
said Walker told her he
lived in North Carolina
but had previously lived
in California. She said
he told her he owned a
construction company
and had one more job
to complete in South
Africa before retiring.
The woman said Walker
then asked her to send
him $200 to give to a
hotel that was holding
his passport as a form of
deposit. The woman told
Hull she sent Walker
the money, but after
sending it he would
not accept her calls
nor respond to her text
messages. Hull tried
to call Walker on the
number he had given
the woman, but no one
answered. Dispatchers
then searched for
Walker’s records in
California, Georgia and
North Carolina but
could find no record of
him.
Woman reported
missing after
leaving Hwy. 87
campgrounds
At about 9:12 p.m. on
July 5, Dep. Antwain
Jones went to the Rum
Creek store on Hwy. 87
about a missing person.
A male Juliette resident
said his mother had
left the Juliette camp
grounds on Hwy. 87 at
about 6 p.m. He said his
mother had early signs
of short-term memory
loss and dementia. The
resident said he didn’t
know where his mother
may have gone, but he
said she was lost and
didn’t know where she
was going. The resident
said his mother must
have taken her hus
band’s truck keys and
driven off in his white
2006 Nissan Frontier.
He said it was the first
time she had gone miss
ing. The mother was
last seen wearing white
pants and a teal-colored
scrub shirt. Jones
entered the mother as a
missing person.
Florida driver
arrested after
high-speed chase
on 1-75 South
A 21-year-old white
St. Petersburg, Fla.
man was arrested and
charged with fleeing
or attempting to elude
and other charges after
a high-speed chase on
1-75 South on July 5. At
about 11:52 p.m., Cpl.
Daniel Ahlstrom saw
a black 2006 Suzuki
GSX750 motorcycle
traveling 99 mph in a 70
mph zone on 1-75 South
near mile marker 191.
Ahlstrom tried to stop
the motorcycle, but the
driver instead sped up
to 120 mph. Ahlstrom
saw the motorcycle
weaving in and out of
traffic, including pass
ing other vehicles on
the shoulder. Sgt. Kirk
Seckinger entered the
chase near mile marker
184. The deputies tried
to box the motorcycle in
near mile marker 175
but were unsuccessful.
As the chase approached
Exit 171 in Bibb County,
the male driver tried to
exit at the last second
and was unsuccessful.
Instead, the motorcycle
went down through a
ditch into bushes at the
bottom of the ramp.
Ahlstrom ordered the
driver to surrender,
but the driver would
not respond. When
Ahlstrom threatened
to send K-9 dogs out
to find the driver, he
started answering. The
driver admitted to hav
ing a Taurus pistol in
his front jacket pocket,
which was removed
by Bibb County depu
ties. The driver, who
had scratches on his
hands, was evaluated
by Bibb County EMTs
before being taken to
the Monroe County Jail.
Ahlstrom then inspected
a book bag attached to
the motorcycle’s rear
seat. He found inside
the bag a grinder con
taining less than an
ounce of marijuana, a
digital scale and rolling
papers. The driver was
also charged with speed
ing, reckless driving,
passing on the shoulder
of a roadway, driving
in the emergency lane,
driving in violation of
license restrictions, pos
session of marijuana,
possession of drug relat
ed objects and improper
lane change.
Juliette resident
reports gold
cross valued at
$6,000 missing
At about 12:38 p.m.
on July 5, Sgt. Todd
Haskins met with a
female Juliette resident
who said she had lost a
custom-made gold cross
with five diamonds,
valued at about $6,000.
The resident said she
lost the cross either at
the Forsyth Ingles, the
Forsyth Dairy Queen or
the Kroger on Zebulon
Road in Macon. She
said she had checked
all three locations, but
the cross had not been
turned in.
